how much did you spend on wedding rings?

we bought platinum rings from tiffanys, new york - mine was £350 - hubby's £750 as is quite weighty. They cost double in the tiffanys london so we figured may as well get a trip to new york thrown in. I love mine, it's perfect - and he loves his too

I have a platinum engagement ring and we bought palladium wedding bands because they can go together with out either one getting damaged. Ours cost under £150 for the two and look great, although it has only be 9 months lol

We got mine from H Samuel this month in the sales, not because it was cheap (well, not JUST because it was cheap!!) but I'd liked it before it was reduced so thought it was meant to be when they reduced it by 50% to £59 and only had my size in stock
Fiance is having a similar but not matching ring, which is priced at £159 ... both will be white gold and rose gold as he's a bit Welsh and it's a lovely warm colour, but got to wait a week as my £25 off voucher kicks in then! Well, every little helps! 0 -
Mine and OH were free:T :T
We both have 100% welsh gold (mine is a 4mm bevelled band) and OH has a 6mm D shaped. At the time (over 20 years ago) OH was a goldsmith with the sole manufacturer of welsh gold and he paid for the by working extra hours. He of course made both the rings himself, as he did my engagement ring.
Me being a fussy so and so now want him to take my original wedding ring and mount it onto a platinum band so I have the two tone effect. If it wasn't for the fact it was hallmarked welsh gold etc. I would have him melt it down and start from scratch! I've been nagging for years but no joy yet.
I did go through a phase of wanting a diamond or two set into the band but he point blank refused as he said they would come out no matter how good the setting as they are worn 24/7 and knocked, banged etc.
Getting rings melted down is a good idea or you could just agree on an exchange for new different style rings. The price of gold is quite high now so you should get good p-ex from an independent goldsmith. Melting down old jewellery is okay but they might all have slightly different alloys and the ring might be a bit porous.
Small independent goldsmiths, look them up in yellow pages as they usually have workshops not shops, will be the cheapest as retailer jewellers mark up 3-4 times as standard.

Ok, so I popped into a couple of jewellers in Hatton Garden today, and I think I've changed my mind. Again! Originally I wanted 4 old relatives' rings melted into one ring, but they hold quite a bit of sentimental value to me, so how would I know that they are actually using the gold that I have supplied??
So after a discussion with one of the jewellers, I'm now thinking of using one of the bands which is 3.5mm wide, and have it cleaned up and polished, and then have diamonds set in. They call it a "graine set" I believe. So with this option, we would be looking at £450  . Now, providing I don't spend more than £50 on H2B's ring, then we right on budget :rotfl:
Has anyone actually haggled with a jeweller to get the price down? I'm going to get some more quotes for the "graine set" and compare I think.0 -
graine set stones in a wedding band will come out if you wear it all day everyday.
How big are the stones they are proposing to set into the band? Once you know the stone size then you can compare prices from different jewellers. If you are near London or Birmingham then head over to the jewellery quarter and look for the small workshops for a good deal.

Ive got small diamonds set in my 18ct white gold band...ill cry if they fall out!:eek:0

No you won't. I used to wear my engagement ring 24/7 and lost stones twice even though OH used to check my settings regularly. Unbelievably I found the stone both time. They weren't huge stones but found one gleaming at me in the footwell of my car and the other dug in me in bed!
I never wear my engagement ring as it's so 80's:rotfl:
