Ive got a feeling avast is too strong and AVIRA is just perfect for everyday use. Avast wont let do yahoo messenger and visit some websites without tweaking it. But its very good when I dont want my OH to use my laptop cos she doesnt have a clue :D

Nothing! The free version does not even check your e-mails, only the paid for version.

Avira AntiVir has great heuristics(one of the best) which means a higher detection rate than both AVG and Avast. Its also lighter on system resources. Who opens random emails anymore? all mine are opened in Firefox with NoScript.

Think I know what's going on here......one of the recent avast updates turned on the memory scan on start-up.....obviously anything scanning like that will apper to lock up the pc....go into avast, program settings and ensure the scan on startup option is unchecked...caught me out when it did this ;)

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
