I've used the paywave on my BC OnePulse once - it took longer than a normal transaction, by the time the guy had set the reader up to be used, and the machine had spent a long time thinking about it!

I work in EC4, and there are very few outlets even in Central London accepting paywave

Some what obviously... this isn't how it's meant to be used. It should be set up and ready to go, and work virtually seemlessly - you see the total and then just swipe your card. You shouldn't have to wait for anything to be set up or wait for prompting, etc.

Naturally, it will take time to roll out, but it will - a lot of merchants can get free upgrades on their machines, most new machines will come with it and so on.

It's unfair/shame that 2in1 Connect cards (i.e. without cheque guarentee function) cannot get the contactless function. Why is this?

Only places London seems to have the VISA wavepay functionality. Hopefully, it will expand to other places in the UK later this year.

Thinking about it, most people seem to pay in cash when an item is £10 or less.... :S

I wonder how long would it take for other banks to follow Barclays move on contactless cards?

The origional trial was in London so that's why most of them are there, it was the Oyster/Bcard trial (they are now doing the mobile phone one)
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

There a retailer map of where you can use Visa PayWave. Enter an area to where it can be used in your own location.

payWave is not instant authorization - you can use the feature without it "calling home" every time. Barclays cards without cheque guarantees are all full authorization.

So that means 2 in 1 cards on a Barclays Bank Account and Cash Card Account are full authorisation then...
