Ghostwheel, I'd be tempted to 'reject the material change to your contract' with Talk Talk and demand that they terminate your contract within 14 days and return you to straight to BT.

Your contract with them doesn't stipulate that you must have your Broadband with them, and if they changed it to say that it does they have given you a way out even if you are within your minimum contract period.

Sorry been off sick - or is that not allowed?! Must remember to post prior warning of any sickness or holidays - or are they just plain not allowed??!!

Serously though - Ghostwheel, I'm glad you have managed to get things sorted out. It is possible you have had a queued order for LLU services which has only just been fulfilled. I cant check this for sure without account details (and it is for this reason we ask people to come onto the members forum - no other). If you do have any further questions please post or PM me.

    Cheers

Just before Xmas I got a call from Talk Talk welcoming me to their Broadband service which was strange because I hadn't requested it (although they have provided my landline for over 4 years). I rang them and they confirmed that an order had been placed on my account even though I wasn't in the country that day and they couldn't provide any details. I asked for it to be cancelled and was assured that that had happened and confirmed that I would not lose my current internet providor. Last night a big red light on my modem indicated no internet connection, of course Talk Talk had snatched it.

I rang them to complain and was told that because of changes Talk Talk had made in the exchange they could not support Demon internet and that this change was irreversable so I had no option but to sign up with them.

Sad I know but I like Demon and I really don't want to leave them especially as this had been forced upon me.

My question is is this a Data Protection issue and do I have any rights of redress elsewhere?

I too have demon, I take it you know demon has been taken over by Cable and Wireless :(

Good to be back - there's only so much Bargain Hunt I can take!!

Ghostwheel - just reading your posts again - why is there a gap in between disconnection with TalkTalk and re-connection with BT? With a return to donor this should be all but seemless with a loss of service only while the line is removed from TalkTalks LLU equipment and re-connected to BTs equipment. Loss of service on this is no more than 4 hours. Have you asked TalkTalk to cease your service and then BT to start a new service? If this is what is being completed for you it can have complications.

I'm going to PM you an e-mail address just in case you need any help with this as you wont be able to register on the TalkTalk forums once your account is placed into a disconnected status.

    Cheers

actually that is a point Emma, instead of telling ppl to goto the other site, why not have them PM the account details in the future? Or is there a problem with that? like with data protection or something?
  • ^ I think the problem may be that, on the TT site IP addresses can be checked alongside details, giving an extra layer of protection to everybody, especially the customer. (you wouldn't like someone else to ask for a cease on your line)

The reason we ask for customers to use TalkTalk Members as DatabaseError has said is we have access to lots more infromation that way and therefore there is less chance of someone posting fraudulently. On top of the information such as IP address we can get from the members forum we ask a number of security questions so it is just for customer safety. If registering on the forum is a real no we sent contact details so we can be e-mailed at a cpw mail address. We take data protection really seriously as a company and as individuals. Working online a lot you have to be 110% certain you're dealing with the account holder.
