Electric boiler not checked for 18+ months, is this breaking the law?

    why would anyone be messing with an electric water tank?

    Maybe theres a leak and the repair man does?

    Maybe its in a airing cupboard and easy to brush against?

    Maybe its in the kitchen and easy to touch?

    Maybe the pipes coming from it arent correctly earthed?

    Maybe the boiler controls are located close to the boiler?

    Its just common sense really, I dont even know why you are arguing.

    Our local council thinks "
    Electrical Safety
    All electrical installations (including wiring, switches and sockets) provided by the landlord must be [FONT=Arial (W1)]certified as safe by a competent electrician (i.e. a member of a recognised body)[/FONT] in accordance with current legislation, at least every five years."
    Once every 5 years should be fine unless problems emerge inbetween checks.

    it was checked 18 months ago

    most of the items you picked up on above would have been noticed in the 18 month check up

    so why is everyone else on this thread going on about yearly inspections?

    when the op has already stated that the appliance was checked 18 months ago

    Adr0ck, from my link;

    Annual visual inspections by the landlord or agent - recording this on a safety checklist,
    Inspections on tenant change-overs, recording electrical equipment, its condition and fuses fitted - see PAT Testing
    Periodic inspections of electrical equipment by a qualified electrician.

    I think this answers the O/Ps question.

    But if there's a problem with an appliance it should be checked immediately.

    Maybe other councils say 2 years - I don't know.

    if its fitted with an rcd its not going to kill you

    you are not going to get electrocuted by an electric water tank unless your messing with it

    and even if you are if its fitted with an rcd its not going to kill you
