  • Wife and I have two joint accounts - one for gas, telephone, water, electricity etc and the other for all our other spending. One credit card account. All money goes into main current account and everything paid from there. Both have similar attitude - if we can't afford it - can't have it. Never paid a penny interest to credit card company or ever been in red in bank accounts. If we want something we wait. Birthday, christmas, anniversaries etc - instead of buying lots of useless rubbish that neither of us needs - new fridge for kitchen, new TV is bought between us. Now I know to lots of people this is incredibly boring but we do balance our budget, we do dine out regularly, have holidays, spoil daughter etc etc. We have been very lucky to be financially compatible. I am amazed that individuals are able to build up massive debts without their partners knowing.

But what if you see the way your OH spends his spending money as a total waste of money??

Well fortunately we have similar ideas about money and his idea of a wild spending spree is to buy an ISA;)

On the other hand I have a bit of a shoe habit so I prefer not to have to explain the carrier bags when they come through the door:D

My wife tends to look after the day-to-day finances while I take care of the investments.

Despite her never working I've always treated all the money coming in as ours. I've never understood these men who give their wives a bit of housekeeping every week.
    Debt in 1993: £35,000 | Debt in 2006: £0 | Assets in 2006: £2.3m and counting. :j

Anything is possible with hard work, determination and the love of a good woman. :D

There is no upper, middle or lower class. Simply those that have class and those that don't. ;)
