Liberton Tower can be hired for the weekend - pretty reasonable in price, short drive to a good bus route into town, but it's a CASTLE and done up in 15th century furniture with a giant log fire (cellar full of wood to use FOC:money: ) and big sofa etc. Four poster bed, twin box beds in room next door. Walls about 5 feet thick so you can make as much noise as you like...;)
Stayed there a couple of years ago, it was truly fantastic - and unique - not just because of the thing that went bump in the middle of the night - (we weren't charged for the ghost - me and hubby both heard it - and he's as skeptical as they come. )
It also has underfloor heating and a fully equipped kitchen , so it's not completely 15th century.

How Intriguing! You know you live somewhere all your life and still find out things you never knew! I'll give this a miss for our romantic weekend but will definitely consider it for a family break, looks like everyone is staying at home this year so this will be a treat.0 -
Have still not decided ! I still think the beautiful apartments at the Witchery is tops but simply don't know if I can justify £300 for one night? It would be a once in a lifetime experience though.0

SIL went to the witchery for her 1st wedding anniversary and again for her 10th 3 years ago she 55 and on her 2nd hubby she really rates the price. 3 years ago she would have been about 52 so very similar age to your hubby. I'm sure you'll have afntastic time whatever you do.0

For £300 you could probably rent a helicopter & fly to Lintlithgow for lunch ?0

MY hubby would love a go on one of those motorised paragliding things.
We went hot air ballooning when on our honeymoon, very calm and serene, you don't get buffetted by the wind, because it's the wind that moves you in the air.;)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -
Id recommend Dalhousie Castle. Been there numerous times, their themed rooms are gorgeous, food is fantastic and its lovely and quiet.0

I have stayed in the Witchery twice, in 2 different suites. I would say go for it, it is truly unique but you really need to book quite a way in advance as it is really popular0

I think I have now decided its the Witchery. I'm going up to look at the suites this week and decide which one. If anyone knows the name of the suites they thought were noisy I'd appreciate it, as I'm a very light sleeper. Thank for all other suggestions.0 -
Dalhousie Castle is nice. Has nice spa facilities as well. Very relaxing.0
