Just been awarded DLA! Yey!

Ive been registered here for a while but mainly lurk and read some of the posts.

I applied for DLA in October and i heard back last week and have been awarded high rate mobility and also middle rate care.

Im 22 now and i used to get DLA around 4-6 years ago but it stopped when i got a bit better, now im having more trouble with the Arthritis i decided to try and apply again.

When i was awarded DLA, there was a list of other benefits i may be entitled too, what ones would i be able to get?

I work 13.5 hours a week, so i heard i may be entitled to get incapacity benefit to top up my earnings, i applied for that this week but dont know what my chances are.

Also as i get middle rate care, what options are available to my Mum who helps me a lot, She works but also gets working tax credits to top up her earnings, What about carers allowence?
Does she have to look after me more than 35 hours per week to be entitled to this?

Im so pleased that i get DLA, i really struggle to do the hours i do now at work and with the worry of money, its a real help to know i wont have to struggle so much! :j

  • Congrats on your successful award, just sad you/we/us are entitled to it ... Well done for keep pushing yourself forward and best of luck.

I'm useless on answering your questions though - sorry - but as a additional surprise which I think you are entitled to as I imagine your award was backdated is that you will now get the one-off £60 Christmas bonus which is currently being given.
  • Hello KrazeyKel!

It's always nice to hear some positive news!

With respect to CA, there is the 35 hours a week aspect to consider, but the time does not have to be spread out aver a week, it could just be over weekends.
There is also a earnings limit, which I believe is £95 per week.

As you have been awarded HM, you are also entitled to a Blue Parking Badge, and also a concessionary travel permit. There is also the Motability scheme to consider,

    Well Done

Its been a couple weeks since i posted this, but finally getting everything sorted.
I filled in an application form for the Blue Badge, and took in my photo yesterday so cant wait to get that, i work a few hours a week at a supermarket and they have knocked down our car park and put in a temp car park as they are re-developing the area and building a tesco soon, but its further to walk so will be so pleased to be able to park in the disabled bays which are where the old car park was, will make getting to work so much easier now! yey

Also i applied for Incapacity benefit, not sure if im entitled to it, someone said as i only work around 13 hours a week i may be able to get a top up of my earnings/disability premium,
However i heard IB/IS has changed to something else recently, but when i applied last week it was still incapacity benefit forms? Ive just got to find my P60/Paye and other letters to take to the Job Centre now.

Havent got my mum to apply for carers, as i dont think i would get it, i get middle rate care but as i dont need 35 hours worth of help a week i dont think we would be entitled to it.

I hate all these forms, i put off applying for DLA as all the stuff i went through last time i got it, had it for years when i was younger but then i got a bit better (yey) and had to go do to one of those meeting things when it ended. so glad i did this time tho

Oh well done its great to hear of someone who got Dla.
Its a horrible process , Im just about to apply but its so scary. Glad to hear of someone who has been successful.
  • How long are the awards for if you choose to go for a mobility car you need at least a 2 year award.

Does your mum earn more than £95 per week including WTC. if she does then you are not entitled of she earns less claim for it you should be receiving around 35 hours help for MRC anyway, that is for a 7 day period.
