Can you get visitor access to Goonhilly? I thought it was a high security installation because of the monitoring of phone calls between the U.K. and North America. Only know that because when my cousin phones from Canada and we get that tell tale click on the line, he always says "Good Evening Goonhilly!". :D

    It's quite a visitor attraction!
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

  • Where abouts are you staying?

There are many little places to visit, near ST Austell. Padstow, Mevagissey, Fowey.
Bens world is near, if your kids are young and Dairyland is great near Newquay. Newquay zoo is very good it has got alot better recently. I think on a monday adults go free if you have a child in the pram.
Up from the zoo is a great pool with flumes, so you could make a full day of it.

Eden project is fab we go most weeks. There is an ice rink there and it's only a fiver for 40mins.

There is an Asda and a Tesco in the town Asda is alot bigger - thanks to our council - Along the road is a pub called the Holmbush, which is an excellent place to eat, the food is fab and plenty.

Shopping - don't even bother with the town. Go to Truro, Falmouth or venture up to Plymouth.

    Hope you have fun.

As has been said, there's no pool at St Austell. Here is a swimming pool list: http://www.destinationcornwall.co.uk/infile12.htm#Swimming

St Austell is now at the tail end of some massive redevelopment. The original cinema was closed down and demolished (along with a lot of the town).

Here's the news report when they laid the new foundations for the new one.
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/7135106.stm

It was due to open in December 2008, so might need investigating further.

Cinemas in Cornwall aren't easy to find. They tend to be small/old fashioned places, not all will show every latest film.

Here is a list of Cornwall cinemas (there is a St Austell one listed there at the top). http://www.destination-cornwall.co.uk/cinema.htm

The new St Austell cinema is now open -haven't been myself but friends say its OK

There is a Swimming Pool in St Austell - Polkyth Leisure Centre (almost next door to the library).

If you have little kids then all the playgrounds have been re-vamped (must have had a grant !) - the one oposite the Library is good.

The town centre is still a building site - unless you want a chemist , bank or shoe shop its best avoided. Easier to go to Truro !

If you intend to visit Flambards, then you can use Tesco Deals and get in cheaply.

Bodmin has the Bodmin & Wenford steam Railway (13 miles away).

    Lanhydock National Trust is nearby.

Just a 'heads-up' that Flambards is closed all of January and doesn't reopen until 3rd Feb and even then, only on limited days.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Mevagissey, which is not that far from St. Austell and quite picturesque and absorbing even for youngsters on a sunny day.
