Last minute panic

So I've found the money to start it now (don't ask me how).
But I am having a last minute panic as to whether I am doing this in the right order and whether I have enough time left in the month to get this sorted (i.e. enough time to get a Barclays/Co-op account set up in time for pay day at the end of the month)
So I am 100% sure that this is the right decision for me. That is not the issue. I am just wondering if I have covered all my bases.....
I have registered on the insolvency service website and am hovering about in the online forms section.
My questions are....
1) Should I be ringing my local court first to ask them how long it would take?
2) How long does it take to get a Barclays account? Can I only do this once I have my date, after my date, or after I have submitted my forms
I'm getting scared that once I press that "submit" button a big red mark is going to be put against my name, a loud buzzer is going to sound, my account will be frozen and a large cage will come down around me on my computer..... I am cacking it

I am cacking it - nothing happens when you press submit. It's when you print it off and go to court. Do it now, the longer you leave it the more self doubt and worry you will get

Barclays takes about 4/5 weeks to open an account. Co-op takes about 1/2 weeks

The choice is yours, only you know is right for you. This is the hardest bit deciding if BR is an option, if it is, do it now! if not you can always cancel the SOA and go back to the life you have, and nobody will be the wiser!0 -

- Ok thanks, will be the 1st thing I do in the morning

- I had previously been told that I cannot open the account until after my BR as all accounts I had prior to BR would be frozen. I wondered how long after but if you are telling me different I will make this my 2nd duty of the day

Barclays takes about 4/5 weeks to open an account. Co-op takes about 1/2 weeks
4/5 weeks? What the bejesus, really??
That makes me think I need to put it off until I've managed to set it up.
Can't go with Co-op as local branch not local at all.
So I WILL have to set up my new Barclays account before I start the BR if I need to set up my DD's, pay being paid into there etc etc
Can anyone else confirm that they were ok to set up their "new BR" account before officially being made BR without the account being frozen?Money, money, money. Must be funny, in a rich man's world. :rolleyes:0 -
just do the coop cashminder account over the phone they are pretty good as long as you are on the electoral roll at your property
you will then at least get an electron card and be able to uese it in the post office etc
use it for dd etc and then get a barclays one for other bits i suppose if it easier to pay cash into it

You can set your account up over the phone. The number is on the Co-op website. You can use the post office to pay money in and there are 16,000 of them! I opened mine 2 days before I went BR, so the account was not open when I was BR, still in processing stage.
Barclays do take 4/5 weeks, so if you have any money to be paid in, use the co-op. The banks WILL close your account when they find out you are BR, as a lot of them take the info from the London Gazette. ( your name will be published here ) the exception are Barclays and the Co-op.0 -
Thanks for your help. You have helped put my mind at ease.
I will call Co-op tomorrow. Didn't know that you can pay in to that account via a post office.
I think I will set up the Barclays one too on my next visit to town. Didn't think of setting up both accounts as I didn't think I would be allowed toMoney, money, money. Must be funny, in a rich man's world. :rolleyes:0 -

I believe Barclays now has a debit card available. The coop bank could be open in as little as a couple of days it just depends how busy they are.

Marlowvian, if your only worry about the co-op is the distance - don't let that stop you. A lot of us don't have a local branch nearby and it really isn't a hassle. The Post Office system works well, and of course online as well.
My local branch is 30 miles away. I doubt that I will be visiting very much!
