18000 kwh a year electric, why?
Hi
We live in a small 2 bed cottage with oil central heating and water,
no gas.
Usual electric appliances but careful with usage.
Prepayment meter is eating on average £44.00 a week
We are on economy 7 but getting it changed to a single meter next week.
It has always been high but we are on an economy drive at present due to a change in circumstances so have been checking meter daily, over the last seven days we have used an average of 49.7 day units and 31 night units.
EON say it wont be a faulty meter and we are just high users.
Has anyone got any suggestions please.
I have compared it with a few friends bills and it does seem extremely high.
Thanks in advance
kitty

Stunningly high. We are a family of six using gas for cooking, heating and hot water.
We use 13 units a day (24 hours) in the summer.
About 15-17 units a day in the winter.
Maximum 23 units one day!
Do you have an immersion heater or any electric heaters?0 -
Hi
No immersion and no ecectric heaters, we have the oil heating on all day due to elderly mil living with us.0 -
Sorry, made an error, the night units were weekly which means between 4 and 5 a night, but still 49.5 day units

Looking again at your figures - you do mean 81 units a day, don't you? Or a week? I assumed a day because that would have been mega high but now I'm thinking you mean 81 a week which is quite possible. But neither would cost £44 a week unless you're paying back debt. Confused.0

Ah, so about 55kwh a day? Very high still - any ideas yourself?0
-
Yes its about 54 per 24 hours and I have no idea why.

Well, looking at it logically and starting with the night units. You are using about 4.5kwh at night - presumably over a seven hour period. For what? Other than fridge, freezer etc. Do you use washing machine, tumble drier etc at night?0
-
Just a fridge and a freezer on at night, didnt even know about the economy 7 but thats another story lol

Well, that suggests your fridge and freezer are using about half a unit an hour - 12 units a day! Our huge fridge and similar sized freezer use a couple of kwh a day between them.
I'm not being very much help here - I just can't see how you can be using so much unless something is seriously faulty or you're paying for the neighbours too!0 -
We have just bought an energy tester, when we can fathom out how to use it I thing we will test the fridge and freezer first then.
We are also going to try turning everything off tomorrow and turning one thing on at a time to see if that throws any light on it
