I want to get my first mobile - a PAYG, mainly for safety. I don't expect to make many outgoing calls or texts

Maybe get the Nokia 1100 from Amazon for £19.99 on T-mobile with £5 credit, play.com had it for less but out of stock now. Virgin have got it for £19.99 with £5 credit too but that's a reconditioned one.2p off is still 2p off!0

cant beat virgin for customer service, its the cheapest network for me (15p first few mins then 5p a min landlines rest of day and 15p to other virgin mobiles). i have been on voda t mobile o2 and orange and i will always stick with virgin now. dont have to pay for voicemails, can top up with £5, 10p flat rate to customer service and with just 1 tariff its simple. just my opinion. on the virgin website there is free next day del and they have some very cheap basic phones.Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

I would vote for Virgin as well, as there are no time limits on when you have to make calls, use credits etc. They wont cut off your phone after a long period of inactivity. I have found thier customer service to be very good.0

I found an old virgin sim which I hadn't used for something like 3 years, still working with 87p credit on it. Didn't expect that!0 -
Thanks for the help - chap in the phone shop says none of the networks credit expires now, as long as you make 1 phone call per month?
What do you think of Orange - my DH is already on it, so I suppose it would make sense to use it too?My dream - stop giving someone else 40 hours a week of my life, and work for myself (currently doing both)

Car phone warehouse have some really cheap sub £20 phones motorola c136 i think it is, if your going to use it for calls as you no doubt will eventualy. get it on the same network as the people you will call the most, if its for text only you cant beat 02 online 300 free texts each month you top up £10, the credit doesnt expire and you only have to make one call in every 6 months to keep the sim active, you can get the 02 sims free online normaly atleast once a month.
if you dont want the phone to be used for out going calls or text just buy any handset you can only call 999 on it but still usefull if its only going to be used for true Emergancies. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.
