Help me leave Tiscali

Will someone give me the confidence to leave Tiscali.
I read horror stories on this forum about people leaving Tiscali and the account not being closed and Direct debits still being taken or worse letters from debt collectors for unpaid bills.
Has anyone left them successfully and stress free, from the requesting of the MAC to the paying of the final bill. I know they bill in arrears but is the account closure date the date the new service starts or do they class that as the start of a 30 day notice period.

Hi.......had to chase them up several times and promised them a small claims court action if they didn't cough up my refund( long story). Your relevant dates will depend on whether you are within the minimum contract period but I have a sneaking suspicion that they make it up as they go along. Don't use their extortionate and useless phone number: I used email i.e.

complaints@uk.tiscali.com and get them to call you ...persistence is the key. We're with idnet now...not cheap but excellent service with a 1 month contract.
Good luck.

I'd been with Tiscali for ages and had threaten to leave them before. They turned round and offered a very good deal so decided to stay. Then they went back on the deal they offered so decided to leave and changed to Talktalk. Talktalk said they'd sort the cancellation with BT and with Tiscali. You guessed it though, tiscali said they never received notice to cancel and were chasing me for payment etc. Phoned them once and didn't get anywhere. I ended up ignoring all their letters and now notice my tiscali email address's are no longer active (shame) but not heard anything else from them. Glad to be shot of them, rubbish company in my opinion.
Think i saw a link off this site for getting talktalk phone and broadband for 10.99 pcm to start with, might be worth a look.
Good luck0 -
Thanks for replies, but so far you have not filled me with any confidence. To canucklehead, I am well out of my contract period.
Is there anyone out there who has left without hassle?0 -

Don't be such a wimp! Everyone knows that they are the worst provider bar none. Request your MAC and move. You can cancel your own DD can't you. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
It wasn't so bad - Tiscali got the MAC address to us within a few days and the transfer went ahead as planned. Unfortunately Tiscali had migrated us to an LLU connection without informing us, and so were in breach of contract with us. As a result, BT charged us £47 to replace the equipment in the local exchange. Unfortunately (again) BT screwed this up and attached our broadband connection to someone else's line or something.
Eventually it was sorted out, but we went without broadband for about 10 days and it cost £47 more than expected. I don't know if I can muster the energy to take Tiscali to court to sue for damages...0 -
We had problems leaving Tiscali too. They continued to take direct debits from my credit card account. I contacted credit card provider who informed me that I couldn't cancel it - it had to come from Tiscali. Tiscali didn't answer emails. I had to phone them numerous times on their high cost phone line. They promised refunds and compensation which never materialised. I was just glad to be rid of them eventually. I'm now happy with TalkTalk and do not pay by credit card. I think its crazy that I was powerless to stop someone debiting money out of my credit card account.0

Now that is crazy! There's no way your credit card company should tell you how to spend your own money (well, okay, their money that they've lent to you).0
