Home Insurance when Renting

Can anyone help me, i am about to move into an old property, it use to be a post office but has since been converted into a 2 bedroom house. I am required by the letting agents to get home insurance, now is this just contents insurance or both building and contents?

Will the agent be able to tell me what type of locks the doors have, roof type and when it was built etc.

Does anyone know of a good insurer also

try a comparison site for your contents. The ring may have to be insured separately. and yes it is personal possessions.
From my own experience keep your receipt for the ring. Take a photo of your partner wearing it as my insurance co. wanted proof of possession when i couldnt find the receipt for a gold bracelet bought about 15 years ago. I have since had all my jewellry valued and have a certificate for it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Is that 20 to 30 per month for all your contents or just the personal possesions

    Try lloyds tsb.
They might do cashback on quidco (I got £120 for car and £120 for buildings & contents).
I had a car claim with them.

You can also adjust you "single item limit" so you won't have to insure the ring seperately.
I have a £5K limit so don't need to put items down individually.

Yes, you do need personal possesions if you want items insured outside of the house.

It doesnt seem too bad for the full cover that you have asked for.
Mine with the CIS is around £180 but i pay it in full annually.
You will pay extra for paying monthly

  • If you go with Abbey you can pay monthly at no extra cost.
