No, find out the information first. Otherwise if you say, for example, "your salesperson lied to me on the phone" and then it turns out you bought it on the internet, you are going to find it hard to later change your argument, and they will say you obviously can't remember what happened or you are a liar...

Egg have recently been fined by the FSA for phone sales of credit card PPI (=CRP) between 2005 and 2007 and so they are very much on the back foot at the moment:

In my humble opinion this isn't the only period or method of PPI sale which will later turn out to have been well dodgy.

I recently received an exceptionally blunt and rude letter from Egg in which they refused to respond to my queries about their internet sales of PPI (in fairness they had already supplied a certain amount of information, which I was challenging). This will result in a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman, followed by a court claim if that fails.

Good for you Militant Consumer Go for it. If you feel you have been miss sold then you are prepared to go all the way so good luck:D

    Hi HAVEFAITH

just wanted to let you know i had egg credit card which i just wrote the first template letter and send of at end of dec and by end of jan i had £1800 in repaid ppi payments. i got 2 letters saying they were looking into it, then suddenly one day my balance on egg card was lower, the next day a letter came saying about my refund.
just wanted to say keep going and should pay out. i think that cos they were taken to court they are dealing with it and seem to be repaying.
im now chasing them for ppi on 2 mortgages which i suspect will be a little more tricky!
    good luck

    Hi,

I have the same problem, my account came with Credit Card Repayment Protector, it was then changed 12 years later to PPI. Do I claim for the whole period (i.e. CCRP and PPI) or does this involve 2 separate claims (i.e. one claim for the period i was paying CCRP and another for the period I was paying PPI)?

Also, how specific do you have to be about the date the policy was taken out? I only know the year...

    Thanks!
  • Hi

After 3 attempts Barclays agreed that I was missold CRP (PPI) on my egg card. But, I never opened statements but one day I did and saw this charge of just over £100 for CRP. I called Egg and asked - I was shocked when they told me it was PPI that I had never asked for.
But... Barclays have awarded me £720 for the 37 months that I paid. They’re saying the charge rate was 0.79 pence per £100. But I absolutely remember that £100 figure - it was so high that’s what made me call.
Am I going mad and imagining things? Barclays have said I paid just £380 in CRP on 37 occasions. They have awarded me £24 interest. Surely this can’t be right? I think I’m due much more and after such a long fight, I’m damned if I’m going to quit now and accept their paltry offer. Can anyone help?
  • If you have evidence their figures are wrong, simply let them know.

A £100 PPI charge would need a balance in excess of £10k.

If you are relying only on your memory of this and don't have any documentary evidence, I think you are going to have to accept the refund the Bank are offering. Are you sure this wasn't an annual statement of charges pertaining to your account?

As ZX81 says above, a monthly charge of £100 would require you to have had an outstanding balance of £10,000 on your card, how likely is that?
