Hi all,
I keep getting the above message when trying to click on links and have no idea why Outlook suddenly appears not to be the default any more.
I've googled it and ensured Outlook is clicked as Default, but have the same problem.
The only thing I can think I've changed on the pc recently is uninstalling Bully (lost the tool bar) and trying to install it again, which the pc won't allow me to do, saying it cannot find the right path.
I can't seem to print and dialogue boxes are freezing, so not sure if I have more than one problem!
I'm on XP, IE6.
Any help very gratefully received.
Mimi

Just tried to download a programme from the internet and it's stating that Windows cannot acess the specified device, path or file, so looks like I've still got this problem.
Is this associated with the email default problem does anyone think?
I've run a full scan (AVG), made sure Windows updates are up-to-date and run System Restore ... nothing's worked and now stuck ...Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
how have you checked outlook is the default ? - can you just clarify
AVG might not have found something, I'd follow the good advice elsewhere and start searching for something nasty just in case.
System restore is not always a good thing.0 -
this is a possibility to try as well :
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultmail.htm
as you may just have a little registry problem0 -
Thanks for the reply Aliktren

I've tried to download from the link you've provided, but keep getting the message ... Windows cannot access, etc. (as below), so no joy there.
I checked Outlook was the default by going through the start menu, internet options, etc. ... it was already set to default.
Any more ideas??Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Stolen from another forum
"Try this with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
closed.
Click Start > Run > type in the following. Including quotation marks. Or copy/paste.
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg
You may have to check the path, but that is most common.
Click OK. When the registration completes, reboot.
Go back and set your e-mail defaults in both Internet Explorer and Outlook Express".
Hope it works0 -
Thanks Satanic. Tried this, but don't know how to set default email in IE I'm afraid ... do you know how?
Anyway, done everything apart from this, but it doesn't appear to have worked.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Sorry, had to nip out, goto control panel > internet options, choose the programs tab, make sure you're email client and preferred browser are listed and then click make default0

OK, OE was already set to default in Control Panel. In Outlook Express, next to This Application is the Default Mail Handler, the "enable" button is faded, so cannot do anything. Is this normal and is this where I should be looking?
