I have had a big tin of golden syrup given to me. What can I do with it?
I think I probably have all the ingredients in my store cupboard to make flapjacks, but I don't normally put golden syrup in mine. My recipe has oats, butter, sugar, dried fruit, (sometimes a banana), and an egg. Do I just substitute some of the sugar for golden syrup?
Any recipes would be gratefully received because the tin of golden syrup is HUGEFool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0 -
I make sweet chilli turkey wraps using Golden Syrup...
(feeds 4)
500g turkey breast, sliced thinly into strips
400g tin of mixed bean salad
squeeze of lemon/lime juice
2 tsp chopped red chillis
2-3 tbsp Golden Syrup (can use runny honey too)
1 red onion, chopped
half a cucumber, chopped
1 fat clove garlic, chopped
pack of soft flour tortillas
small tub low-fat natural yoghurt
Empty the beans into a bowl, mix in the chopped onion and cucumber.
Heat a little oil in a wok or BIG saucepan, add the turkey strips and stir for 3-4 minutes. Throw in the garlic and chilli.
Add the Golden Syrup, stir around to coat. Continue to heat for a few minutes, the syrup will start to thicken and darken a little bit.
Serve by spooning some bean mix onto a tortilla, add some sweet chilli turkey, add a splodge of yoghurt. Roll up and eat. Delicious.
This is messy. Like spag bol, don't eat it in front of people you don't know very well."I'm not a one-trick pony. I'm not a ten-trick pony. I'm a whole field of ponies - and they're all literally running towards this job."

Thriftlady posted a good flapjack recipe on here its the one I use. I'll see if I can find the link (I printed it out and now use that). Saw another thread recently where someone suggested golden syrup over suet dumplings as a dessert. My parents use a little golden syrup (warmed) poured over rice when serving it with a chicken stir fry, gives it a lovely taste.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I have found Thriftylady's recipe and adapted it a bit to use things in my store cupboard. I put the flapjacks in the oven about 10 minutes ago and they smell delicious already. I'll let you know how they turn out shortly.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0

In the Old Style Recipe Collection there's a handy recipe for a microwave sponge pud - done in minutes and soaked in syrup it should be great!
