In the last year I haven't used schools, hospitals, the army, and I don't drive a car. It's not fair! Gimme my ball back!
  • Its only £5 more, and I guess when you weight it all up it is good value for money. All that anoys me is everything is always going up, except for peoples salaries, this is my gripe. I dont mind paying more for everything, if my salary changed at the same rate, but it doesnt, so I am worse off each year :(
  • i dont have a problem paying for things I use, nor do i have a problem paying tax to keep the country running as a whole - I do object to someone telling me i have to pay a charge for something whether i use it or not - i dont pay hotpoint for having a washing machine, why the hell should i pay the bbc so i can watch itv?
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D

How on earth can you say that the BBC is free from adverts? Between each programme there's a good few minutes of plugs for their services - Freeview (which I can't even get in my part of the world), digital radio, even the TV licence itself... before even mentioning the same trails for the same rubbish programmes! Personally, I'd like to see what the BBC would be like with even MORE adverts!
Furthermore, why should people be forced to pay for programmes that are exclusively shown on the digital services provided by the BBC when a third of the country won't be able to get them for at least another 7 years?
The BBC is obligated by the govt to push the digital channels. The Govt want to sell off the analogue signals and part of the Beeb's remit is to develop a range of channels to lure people to the freeview/digital side. if you don't like it, blame the govt who are pushing the digital agenda.

out of curiosity, would people prefer a (reasonably priced) tv package, where , like you can on sky/cable, you only pay for the channels you use - pick n mix TV as it were?

  • I want to make one thing quite plain. Only a small fraction of your licence fee goes to the BBC. The bulk of it goes to THE GOVERNMENT.
So all those who have been paying this stealth tax have been paying for the Iraq war AND backing the so-called Baghdad Broadcasting Corporation at the same time. You've got some explaining to do!

Don't get one; don't get done.

No. It's to fund a brand new digital TV station which is to broadcast in the Arabic language, so that all you Arabic speakers out there can enjoy yet another repeat of Porridge.

LOL - hope that was joke/irony - I get my 40p a days-worth from the BBC website and radio, never mind the telly.

    .
Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that the major bulk if not all of the licence fee went to the BBC (about £5bn at the moment)
