I deal with Dell a lot at work and find that they will only speak to the person they spoke to regardless of the fact that I work in a team of five and anyone could deal with it.

Please don't worry yourself about and stay calm. If you find that after the problem has been fixed you are still receiving calls then it would be worthwhile phoning/emailing Dell (from your mother) and say that you are pertrubed by the fact that this person has been calling you and ask for your details to be revoked from the call log

    As above.

Also, (not sure how Dell work) could this man just be calling to ask if you are happy with the service provided and to check that you are satisfied with the repairs to the laptop - perhaps a follow-up quality check rather than anything sinister?

I agree with the above. In my experience of Dell they (rightly) are only interested in talking to the person who reported the fault to ensure that they are happy with the resolution ... anybody else may be no more than a casual passer by who does not really know.

I really thin you are reading too much into this! It sounds like the poor guy is just trying to find out if everything went ok! I very much doubt he realises how young you are, he's just making sure the service was good!

But surely the computer belongs to the mother, and surely the mother has already explained this, and said the repair man did come and the thing is working again......Sounds like a jobsworth or a company that has no flexibility in it's procedures.

Anyone should be intelligent enough to understand that the daughter called on behalf of Mother. This job should be signed off as complete with an advisory note to explain unable to contact original caller but computer owner (mother) says everything ok.
  • Don't worry, I had a replacement monitor sent because the incompetent Dell sent me one with a 1cm squared cluster of dead pixels in the middle

It's just a 'courtesy' call to find out if the new one has arrived and is working ok. They tried to reach me at home and then phoned on my mobile asking if it was ok. Shame their Customer Service team aren't as helpful and caring  If I could turn back time, I'd go to PC World instead, but that's a different issue.

Don't worry, I don't think he's trying to stalk you if that's what you were worried about ;)

Hopefully, this is just him following the rule to speak to the person they spoke to regarding the fault. He's being a bit silly though because he also spoke to your mum so could continue to do so.

I would, however, get your mum to phone him and explain that you both found it inappropriate to call so many times asking for a child (okay, I know you are a teenager, lol!!), and that future contact should be made via mum.

  • But if she made the initial call I don't see what the fuss is about. They were following up on the tech support call - if she was able to explain the problem to Dell in sufficient detail to warrant an engineer callout, what's wrong with receiving a phone call from a 'man'?

If it had been a female tech support person (yes, there are a few out there! ;)) would you have been as worried about it as you are now?

I agree it's silly to attribute this to anything else other than what it is, a tech support trying to contact the original caller, he probably doesn't know her age. And even if he now knows her age he is just stupidly sticking to his rediculous guidelines.

OH but of course I forgot evryones a dirty perv these days
  • Dell's telephone tech support people always seem very eager, a bit OTT maybe? I think they must have very strict targets to meet.

Chances are the person calling you is an underpaid IT graduate in India, desperate to keep his job (or else just very keen), so no chance of him getting anywhere near you if thats what's worrying you.

The people who come out to fix the machines are local contractors, not Dell themselves, so Dell do need to check they've called so they know whether to pay them
