cheapest way to get an XDA Exec/Mini S (or their counterparts from rival networks)

Options
hi people...i'm trying to purchase the XDA Exec/Mini S for the cheapest cost possible over 12months. unfortunately, O2 have stopped allowing customers purchasing the handsets on their Data5 tariff

will O2, or the other networks for that matter, be doing a similar scheme in the near future? otherwise, what is (currently) the cheapest way to get the phone? any insider help would be greatly appreciated!!! :T

    It's not exactly the same...
But I got the T-Mobile Mda compact II (which is made by the same company),
on web and walk on an 18th contract.

I have got 12 motnhs half price line rental and extra money off for having online customer services.

It works out £13 a month for 12 a month and £28 for the last 6.

I get 40mb of data and 100 free minutes a month.

    Web n Walk

i just posted this on rpoints for xda exec

    http://shop.o2.co.uk/student/o2uk/jsp/handset/SelectHandset.do?pageMode=null&paramName=&prodID=consumer%3AO2%3AXDAExec%3A3G%3AGROUP&x=12&y=10

    £125 on any O2 contract.

£19/mth for 50 minutes + 200 texts. Data bundles are reasonably priced.

Much cheaper than on other networks and cheaper than ebay too.

You can also get the phone on a business tariff if you have a business

    http://shop.o2.co.uk/cgi-bin/o2uk-bs/jsp/devices/DeviceDetails.jsp?deviceType=Pda&model=business:O2:XDAExec:GROUP

    £130 + contract @ £16.50/mth + 100 minutes + 20 texts

Orange is more expensive, tmobile web+walk is ok, but still more expensive than o2 + data.

The Mini-S is £25 from student site, same contract - £19/mth (or higher) for 12 mths. With a 18mth contract you will get more minutes on either 'phone'.
  • hi thelawnet, and thanx...do you know if i subscribed to the business tariff @ £16.50 pm can i downgrade to the Data5 (assuming it still exists) after 6 months, or is £16.50 the minimum tariff already?

hi, I just spoke to o2, and the said that the online business tariff from which you get the xda for £130 is exclusive - there are no other tariffs to which you can switch.

So the data works out quite pricey. £35 for 30mb or £55 for 50mb....

So no, the tempting data tariffs they have are not an option. You can get the XDA on a data-only tariff, but it will cost you £250+

Bought the XDA Exec last week on £19pm for £125 direct from O2's online site. Best offer I could find.

Nice phone too, if a bit chunky, but I'm prepared to have the best PDA phone at the expense of size.

AND I beleive it comes unlocked out of the box (not tried this yet).

I ordered myself a 1 gig SD card and should be able to put a few movies on there to watch on the tube! :)

I didn't check, but I think the student deal is also an online tariff with only expensive data available.

So I went to the store. They are advertising in their brochures the XDA Exec for £99.99 on any tariff, or free if you spend £60 a month. They told me this has now changed and it is £230. However, your store still might give you it for £99.99 if you are lucky.

They also said Data 5 (£8/month) is no longer available standalone, so the minimum is £15.50/month for Data 36 (or £18.50 for Data 755). The phone costs £150 with tariffs of £30 or more, but the cheapest tariff above £30 is £40/mth.

So in the end I am paying

    £230 - £50 rebate for old unwanted phone = £180
    £15.50 + VAT = £18.21

Total first year price = £398.52

Try some of the other options if you like - it depends on whether you will need calls, or if like me you have another phone with voice minutes.

On the data tariff you cannot make any calls at all, although you can do texts.
  • thanks so much for your explanation thelawnet....looks like i should have taken up the salesman's offer to purchase the Exec for £99.99 with a 12month contract @ £16pm after he mistakedly tried to sign me up for the defunct XDA Exec-Data5 package

probably too late now =P...but thanx mate for your help!!
