That's a great tip!
I'd also add that if you put your new email address in the To: field by itself, just to drive the message home. Plus Outlook Express "remembers" email addresses that are To: line of emails, AFAIK.

I'm in exactly that situation - was BT ADSL for a few years, now moved away.
This issue was a major worry for me when I ditched my £27.99/£21.99 512Kbps BT Yahoo Openworld account for a £10/m 1Mbps circuit elsewhere.
The good news (in mid 2005 anyway) is that they downgraded my main a/c from being an ADSL broadband a/c with its various broadband settings/perks to a regular pay-as-you-go a/c accessible by dial up modem on a 08... number.
That PAYG main a/c is restricted to FEWER email a/cs - so if you have (from memory) up to 10 email a/cs you'll be cut down to 4 or 5 (from memory).
You can PICKU UP email from the BT POP servers just as normal however you're on the Internet, but as a PAYG a/c you can NOT send email via their secure smtp mail server WHILE you are logged on to the Internet via other ISPs such as your new ADSL one. (This takes a while to ripple through though and you may be confused about it.) Sending email on the BT a/c has to be done via BT's web-form email.
The limit on the PAYG a/c is that you are required to dialup at least every 90 days to maintain it as an active a/c.
Has been working fine for me for 6-8 months.0 -

You can send your outgoing emails from your BT account via your new ISPS smtp server.Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Albert Einstein0 -
Very interesting stuff. I had problems with spam and then went to Google Mail (GMail) and it has all gone away. If anyone wants a Gmail account send me a PM and I will send you an invite. You get 2Gb of storage, it comes through Outlook Express etc. just as your normal ISP E-mail would."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0
