Magentasue, thanks for the great advice. I've also been looking generally at energy information sites to get an idea how different daily actions compare, like baths and showers. The national grid made something worth a look at called Floe which is fun to use, and I found out things like, "replacing a standard dishwasher with a more energy efficient model for 1 year reduces your carbon impact as much as running a dishwasher that isn't energy efficient for 6 years." Quite a difference!

    Hello Dad.
  • Switching your supplier helps to save money but the best way is really to use less of the stuff. Do things like change to energy saving bulbs and common sense such as turning lights out in rooms you are not using, lower the heating etc.

Take regular meter readings to see how your usage changes.

An Owl Monitor helps to see this instantly. If you take regular meter readings, you can see how much it is costing you before you get the bill by using this online smart meter tool.

Sort of agree. Sort of. Reason I don't totally agree is the massive amount of people who have been on their energy suppliers most expensive tariff for yonks. The VERY first thing these people should do is switch!! Here's an example. Yorkshire area, couple with average consumption (20,500 gas 3,300 leccy) paying npower's standard leccy tariff and British gas' standard gas tariff can save £268 per year by just switching suppliers!! That's without turning a single light off! Of course, combine this with the usual energy saving measures and the savings will be very worthwhile.
