Blueyonder blues!

Hi gang
Had the chap around from Telewest today to connect me to broadband. He left me the blueyonder cd,andthought this should be straightforward. However, during the instalation I got a multitude of connection errors/ cannot connect to server/ cannot find default gateway-blah blah blah. After around four attempts I gave up. To cut a long story short I,just out of curiosity clicked on the internet explorer icon on the desktop and hey presto was online.
My question is;can i bypass the blueyonder route altogether and bin their cd? Or is it better to persevere with their software. Although I tried calling the technical support today and spent an age on hold and eventually had to give up on that too.
Cheers all

Do not bin the CD keep it with you at all times as it is by far the easiest way to install
once it is installed it is OK to click IE to get online you do not have to use the blueyonder icon, now a default gateway error means that you probably set up the account whilst they were tweaking your settings their end, well thats what I did as
I was abit too eager..
There tech support is abit long winded but there IST Instant Support Tool
is very very good... you may get errors also by jumping the Gun and connecting cables
before the install disc asks you too..
Also I would go into IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab,
and remove any dial up accounts in there, unless you really need um
which I am pretty sure you dont.0 -
On XP you do not need to install using the CD, XP picks up the cable modem and connection no problem.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Thanks Intel.I maybe was a tad impetuous.I did follow their instructions but in a fit of pique may have yanked the modem cable out of the USB port at a critical point. !!!!!!!0

Oh just some advice if you have the ethernet option use that, you
will get a more stable and faster connection than USB.0 -

Mmm you sure as its not a software option but a hardware option
have you got a socket on the back of your PC that looks like this.
Just look at the hole not the whole thing the connection looks
like a big phone socket.. will be one on the PC and one on the back
of the modem.. Unless your PC is a bit older and doesnt have one
then dont worry, just go with the USB connection.0 -

There is a connection on the rear of the modem but not on PC.
Thanks for your help Intel0 -
When I got mine installed, the engineer told me that I'd only have to bother with the CD if I was plugging in the cable modem via USB.....
I still installed using the CD though
