If you know his address then do a land registry search on it, which will cost a couple of quid and will show the mortgage borrowed against the property. He is allowed 100% of the costs of the mortgage offset against his income unless you apply for a Departure on the grounds that his partner can contribute towards it. They will look at her income and apportion the housing costs accordingly, thus increasing the amount available to make a child support assessment on. 40k is a low mortgage and as there are no children in his house, his assessment will be reasonable. His partner's income is only taken into account either for the Departure as mentioned above, or to see if his assessment needs to be reduced as he requires a minimum amount to live on according to the law, so if his maintenance takes him below that limit, his maintenance will be reduced. The maximum he can pay is 30% of his net income. How much has he been assessed to pay? Do you have the assessment letter there to hand which gives a breakdown. You can PM me if you like - I was a Face to Face officer at the CSA and so will be able to tell you if it is right. Has his income dropped?
  • jocymru75 possibly his extension has been taken into account too, I can't believe that you have been sent a full booklet to complete re his partner, telephone them again and tell them he has a partner and give as much detail as poss, ask them to contact him, kellogs36 (hopefully) should be able to advise you if a face to face officer will attend his property. hope this helps

This is a do-it-yourself test for paranoia: you know you've got it when you can't think of anything that's your fault.

The booklet sounds like it is a Departure application form, which will look at apportioning his housing costs. Perhaps it has gone down because he applied for extra borrowing to be taken into account for his extention.

I know that his income stated on the assessment has gone up by only about £30 a week and the housing costs had gone up by around £50.00. Can't find the 2nd sheet of the summary at the mo,(may have packed it with the decorations), but when i find it i'll pm you if you don't mind.
Off to do my Inspector Clueso bit first and try the Land Registry, it may cost a few quid, but it may be so worth it!! Thank you!!

Face to Face contact has been severely restricted regarding visits. He can of course ask for an interview to take place at his nearest DSS office. This service is also open to parents with care which is often much better than contact by phone.

It will cost you 3 quid!! The increase in housing is probably due to extension. Feel free to PM me - I can give you my e-mail address then you may be able to scan the assessment (you can cover up personal details so I can't see them!!)

You may be right there!! Will phone again and phone again on Monday!
Why would two people need a double extension to an already 3-bedroom house, when there isn't any need for the extra rooms. Maybe he's on this site to under mortgage free wannabe!:rotfl:
