  • You might also want to try Money Manager... a free and open source personal finance solution:

I've been using Microsoft Money 2005 UK edition. No problems with it. I've also heard that there have been no plans to release a UK version of any later editions.

I've heard good things about this (and it's free):

I tried it - Too complicated for personal accounting IMHO. Also this is one of the few companies I have given a (unique) email address too and had persistant undesirable spam to ever since (I see it being canned in the logs even now a couple of years later).
  • There are many free and open source money management programs that run on a windows platform (as well as linux of course). GNU Cash is a popular one, must say I've never used it
Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved

I've not used but I've heard that Acemoney Lite is OK.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

  • I use GnuCash for my personal accounting, its free, does everything I need & I find it easy to use. Why not give it a go? - it won't cost you anything.

I'm puzzled by the comment from Lorien - The GnuCash Project is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization (not a company) - there is no need to provide an email address, just download the software from http://www.gnucash.org

I've no connection with the project, other than finding GnuCash an excellent tool.
  • This one? I know it's American (as usual), just hope UK version will be out soon.

  • And if you're really concerned about continuity, you could always set up your own pro-forma's using Excel...:p

GnuCash is excellent although some people give up in the early stages as it 'appears' complicated. Reading of the manual usually clarifies things particularly the 'double-entry' accounting.

I would be surprised if GnuCash is actually sending spam email...

As an alternative AceMoney is a little more user friendly and much more like MSMoney. The paid for version enables the use of more accounts and includes free upgrades for life.
