Mobile number nearly the same as Aer Lingus

Hiya
Bit of a problem. Aer Lingus have just introduced a new number when calling them from the UK - unfortunately my phone number is one digit different from theirs and consequently I am getting lots of phone calls at all times of day from people trying to contact them.
It wasn't so bad to start with, but it's starting to do my head in and they can't do anything about it. I understand that they will have spent a lot of money changing their number, but I have had mine for 7 years and don't see why I should change it either!
Anyway, don't know if there is actually anything anyone can suggest as I don't think there is anyway to resolve this one.
They don't have a complaints dept and when you try to select this on their phone system it cuts you off. The customer services are obviously not able to help either.
I know everyone gets incorrect numbers, and I get quite a few on my home phone for a certain gym, but calling on my mobile number is really annoying. The only thing they suggested was putting my phone on silent so I didn't get woken up by it at the weekend (like happened this Sunday), but surely that defeats the object of having a mobile that your friends and family can contact you on?!?
Should I just be abusive to the poor people who do get through to me or point out (as now) that they have transposed 2 numbers.
Sadly TPS would not work in this instance or the gym instance
Any thoughts gratefully received, but the vent has made me feel a bit better.
TQ

Make a Police report and say you get abusive calls from people who want to get through to Air Fungus, then get a crime number and phone your provider
and ask them to look into it.0 -

But what are they going to be able to do about it? I doubt that anything can be done short of changing your mobile number!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -

I dont work in the Telecomms industry so I will leave that upto them.

Yep and thats why I said phone the provider to see what they can do
as I also said I dont work in Telecomms so they may have a different idea.
I did not say in my Original post that they should ask for a number change
you just thought I was going down that route, what I actually said was just
phone the supplier i.e Orange as they may have an alternative solution.0 -
Why not phone Aer Lingus press office?0

Suppose it could be one for the local/national papers - hard to see them changing their number tho. Keep at them and see if they'll give you some free flights as a goodwill gesture.
You could always change your number and put a divert on your current phone for BA or someone like that!!!0 -
Take the calls pretend to take the bookings (at a discounted rate) then when they have loads of customers complaining that they don't have their booking, I am sure Aer Lingus will find that they made their bookings via their telephone number and will in time change their telephone number to try and alleviate the problem
Alternatively I think if the Aer Lingus number is a new issue then it will be them that have to change their number or they request that you do and compensate you for for doing so.
I am in the comms trade and have heard this happening where the person getting the misdialed calls got a reasonable amount for their troubles (as once the number has been advertised, it costs them a fortune to re-do everything again) so its cheaper to get you to change your number than theirs.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
Write to Air Mingus telling them that you would answer any calls misdialled to them using foul language and give them 1 week to reply. If nothing changes or no reply answer "their" calls and swear your head off , tell the customers its your last day on the job and that if they dont like it to write to Air lingus customer service and give their address.I am sure that will do the trick. Why should you change yournumber??0

I used to have a number that was one digit from a taxi company, I truly loved being woken at 3 in the morning by drunken oiks trying to book a cab home. I just used to say "yes, we will be there in 10 minutes" then roll over and go back to sleep. One of my regular misdiallers was my youngest brother, I could recognise his voice, I was really glad when mobiles came in and he had the right number programmed in. I only told him a few months ago that I was the reason for so many nights standing in the rain when he was young and stupid:D
In your position I would call Aer Lingus customer services and see what they say.0
