I tried to register repeatedly when the battery was extremely low. Eventually I had the message "contact your dealer" when phone was recharged. It is an old Phillips Savvy 12 and I am not sure who I bought it from all those years ago! It is on cellnret 02 pay as you go. Can anyone advise?

  • The newer phones display "contact Service" if there is a hardware fault so I would presume this is the same thing.
Remembering what the Savvy looks like I would look on this as the perfect time to upgrade .. and to be honest just about any new phone ranging from £10 upwards could be counted as an upgrade from the Savvy ;)

If you want to keep your number then either buy a PAYG O2 phone and swap sims or otherwise buy a phone you fancy and get it unlocked.

your sim card will not work in a newer phone you will have to contact o2 to keep your number
  • Ahh, good point .. read the post too fast.
If you haven't used the sim in 6 months then O2 will kill it off.

Many thanks. The reason for not changing is the number which is the mobile number quoted on my business letterhead for years and years!
The other point is that this phone has a "free number" which I can use to ring a landline and with pre arranged call divert, ring any number without charge to the mobile. So my PAYG is minimal. Is it possible to move within 02 and what would be the complications?

it is possible to save your number and keep your best friend number and in my mates case he got a free upgrade to a nokia 1100 just contact o2
  • Did the Savvy have the same issue as the older C12, ie the phone and sim card were tied together so you couldn't put the sim in another phone?

I have just looked at the sim card. It is the same size as a "modern" card which is not what I recall before I sent it away last year for repair .... so maybe the phone has been uprated !???
  • My mum just traded in her broken Savvy for £10 off her new PAYG phone which was only £19.99! So she got it for £9.99.

She asked them to swap the SIM over, set it all up and show her how to use it. She was there about an hour!

Not such a dotty old lady after all!
