Loft insulation and condensation

We have some old loft insulation which was there when we bought the house, it's settled to about 50mm now and we're getting a lot of heat escaping and condensation occurring on the underside of the roof tiles so for both the insulation an condensation I want to put down another 200mm of insulation

There are a few boards in the loft that we can store things on but the joists only seem to be 100mm thick so we can't put too much of a load on it. Problem is if I lay 200mm of insulation on top of the old insulation that will take the level of the insulation above the joist depth. I mean I could put boards down on top of the new insulation but this would compress it down and I assume that reduces the thermal insulation.

Has anyone else had a similar problem and how did you get round it - is putting in deeper joists the only answer?

Thanks
