Alfietinker wrote:....when trying to ice some gingerbread men  In my book it gave very complicated (but not very clear) instructions for how to make a greaseproof paper icing bag. No matter how hard I tried I just couldn't get a cone shape that didn't fall apart. So if anybody could shed some light whilst we're on the subject?
It says to fold a rectangle diagonally in half, carefully slice along the fold, fold over one half and you should have a cone. But I couldn't make it work
It just takes practice.Fold the rectangle in half corner to corner to make a sort of long triangle.Cut down the middle and you have 2 long triangles.you need to sort of roll up the triangle starting at the corner with the longest edge which becomes the point of the bag.You roll it into a sort of cone shape then fold a piece of the top over to stop it falling into pieces.sounds complicated i know but it can be done in seconds!
(one rectangle makes 2 bags) or roll them together to make a stronger bag.
I used to be a confectioner so made them all the time but honestly practice makes perfect and its a great skill to master - very usefull !Do what you love :happyhear0 -
That's the one that was in the book. Grr! Still trying, but still can't master it. I keep ending up with a cylinder and not a cone
I think I must be very dense
At least I can do it with a square like Squeaky now.New year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -

You're not dense !I was making them for a living so I would think it was easy.I'm not sure my instructions were the clearest around but it's hard to explain, much easier to show someone. All I can suggest it when you roll it keep it tight at the bottom(nozzle end) and very loose at the other so it comes out cone like.Keep trying, you can use the same piece over and over till you get it! :j
Good luck!Do what you love :happyhear0 -
