How are you saving money this year?

When it's full I take it (and them) to a supermarket, let them pour the money into a coinsorter machine then they get to choose something to the value of the money (although I sometimes top it up a little.)
Not very frugal but it brings them a lot of pleasure.
As for serious saving this year, I may as well buy premium bonds as interest rates are so low.
Get the kids to count it themselves! and save the charge from the machine and it gives them something to do!0 -
I refuse to let the coinsorter machine take money from my kids hard earned spending money for their holiday, so we all count it and put in bags for the bank. I used to love counting money as a kid!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

7.9p per £1
79p for £10
A massive £7.90 for £100..... Now would you rather not count it yourself!

Is there a charge to use Coinstar?
Yes. For Coins-to-Cash service, Coinstar charges a processing fee. In the UK you'll pay approximately 7.9p for every £ of coins counted. In Ireland you'll pay 9.4 cents per Euro counted. Our customers tell us they are willing to pay a small service charge for speed and convenience rather than sort, count, roll and carry their coins to a bank.
And that holiday money and special coins like £5 ones.... No, they just keep them. That's very nice of them!
Do I need to sort my coins before using the Coinstar Centre?
No. Coinstar accepts any quantity of unsorted coins in your local currency. Coinstar's patented technology filters out foreign coins and other debris. However, these items may not be returned by our processors so it is a good idea to remove such items as five pound commemorative coins, pure silver coinage, foreign, damaged or sticky coins, and other debris from your stored coins.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
I'm saving money by following a blog that raises money for two ME/CFS research charities by giving a weekly moneysaving tip (by no means all the same ideas as those on MSE, though they do use info from here as well) and asking people to donate part of the saving. It's fun and other charities could use the same approach - you could use it to save money for yourself and donate to the charity of your own choice. The site is as www[dot]justfourquid[dot]com (sorry I can't post the link properly, I am a newbie).
For example, one of the tips a couple of weeks ago was that we should have a "Week of Happy Ignorance" and give up buying a newspaper for a week (so making a saving) but also avoid the TV, radio & internet news to see if it made us happier (as research suggests, apparently). It's very entertaining!0 -
I just recently graduated and I've been selling all my unwanted stuff on eBay to make a bit on the side. I must have made over £800 by now - literally anything will sell, it's brilliant. Clothes and shoes are alwys good to put up but DVDs and CDs also get quite a bit too. I've noticed that eBay has a twitterfeed that puts up loads of good deals everyday: twitter.com/life_4less0
