Screwed By Our Own Motor Insurance Company

Why it is your insurance company is paying you, I dont understand. It's suppose to be the other party's insurance company who meant to pay you the settlement.
It's your insurer's job to assist you to recover the value of your car + excess fee from the other's insurer. Don't accept £500 if the market value is more, tell your insurer you want x-amount for your car. Another mentioned, you can always claim for whiplash injury to u and your family.0 -
Why are you not claiming for injuries? Must be another £5,000 there. So many people around here claim for such minor injuries and amazingly they are paid. Try going to a claims management company in your local town.
One of the reasons that our insurance premiums are often so high is because people put in extra claims, such as for non existant injuries.
While i don't approve of this i do understand why it happens, insurance companies are reluctant to make fair payments, particularly in circumstances like this.
Although i don't agree with people putting in false claims, if i was in the same position as the OP i can't honestly say i would'nt think about it.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

just looked on autotrader the first 30 cars are basically the same age or newer than your car and are all £500 or less,at the end of the day the insurance company is only going to give you market value for your car, even if you paid £2000 for it a week earlier does not mean it is worth £2000,saying that if you push them i reckon they will go to about £650 but not a lot moreHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Take it up with the other person's insurance company, through the small claims court if necessary. You are entitled to be put back in the position you were before the accident, as far as is possible.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

It is not the insurers job to recover uninsured loses- which the excess is, from a third party. This is the job of the soliciters/claims management company your legal assisstance is with.
Looking on autotrader, £500 is really quite reasonable for a 11/12 year old car- look at what Puntos you can get for it.

Tell your insurance company to put a hold on your claim and contact a specialist recover company such as Helphire.I have a cunning plan!

Just a word of warning - we had a no-fault claim last year - took around 8 months to get the excess back.
If you went to A&E there must have been an injury?0 -
I was in a smash a few years ago, the third party insurer paid out and never even mentioned the excess as that is only on your insurance and not the third parties?
As for price for your car on Autotrader looking at Trade Sales in South Manchester I would be asking for round £800-£900 if you can prove service history. This can be reciepts for things you have done your self.
What model was the car you had? did t have any extras? The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

Never accept a first offer.
Go back and get more.

Thank you all for your replies. Thankfully the kids were well strapped into the child seats. We, however, recieved whiplash with Louise coming worse off and nursing very tender hips. We were insured through budget (MMA insurance). They were very prompt assigning us a claims handler, solicitor and courtesy car. However, we are still to hear from the solicitor regarding injuries. The car hire company have been pestering pretty much every day for the return of their car and the thrid party insurers have only just contacted us today suggesting we use them to cut down on costs and delays. This option (our insure tells us) is not available as the claim is being dealt with. Added to this MMA have requested all the vehicle documents as they have declared the car a total loss. I expect that if i send these they could say I have accepted the offer and can close the door on me...0
