Cannot Save to Memory Pen ...

Right now, one to test you serious Techies out there.
Purchased brand new computer October 2005.
Purchased memory pen from same shop two weeks later.
Managed to transfer some of the data from floppies, but not all due to problem developing.
Problem: Cannot save (or alter documents and resave) to memory pen - it comes up with a permissions error.
They put my memory pen in one of their computers and they had the same problem. They gave me a new memory pen.
Two weeks ago took the computer back and they replaced (I think) the USB ports. Didn't work.
Last week took the computer back again and they did a re-build.
Have not dared to test it out to see if it was working until this morning. But ... still having the same problem and this time they are talking about replacing the mother board - Asus A8V Deluxe Socket 939 for AMD CPU.
This is all getting rather silly tooing and froing to the shop with the tower, but as this has been a problem since getting the machine it obviously needs sorting out.
Any ideas anyone?

Make sure the write-lock on the pen drive isn't on...
Just ruling out the obviouse stuff! :-)0 -
p.s. if that doesn't work, try this:
when pen drive is inserted, go to my computer, and right-click on your pen drive (usually disk E or F)
Select properties
Click on the 'Hardware' tab
Select your pen drive from the list (usually already selected) and click on properties
Click on the 'policies' tab
Make sure that 'optimise for performance' is selected and that 'enable write caching on the disk' is ticked.
Click OK
Try to save something again.

It wasn't on on the first pen, but will check this second one. EDIT: Has a little window but I cannot for the life in me see anything that locks or unlocks on this one (different brand from the first memory pen).
With regard to inserting the pen drive and clicking on the hardware tab, I have followed these instructions until I got to "enable write caching on the disk" is ticked. Followed it up until then, and although I did not do the "enable write" bit I opened up a document, altered it and tried to save it and it again did not perform. Same old message came up.
Not sure where that was!0 -
Have you checked the properties of the document you are trying to edit?
Could th ebe read only?
Right click and check the read only box is unticked?Fortune's always hiding, I've looked everywhere......0 -
Thanks for your input Hillfly - however, it is also happening when I create a new document and try to save it to the "E" drive, so I don't think this is going to be the answer.0

I'm fairly sure you are within your rights to ask for a completely new computer as they have failed to fix it and it's clearly not fit for the purpose for which it was bought. I wouldn't accept yet another attempted repair.0

Well, that's a thought! Does anyone know where I stand legally on all of this?
Plus, I paid on my Goldfish credit card - do I have any comeback on that?
Would really rather not go down that route, but I did say to the shop this morning that it rather defeated the whole object of getting a new computer if it would not do what I wanted it to.0 -
Do other devices work in the usb ports? ie Digicam etc? You're Damned If You Do & You're Damned If You Don't :doh:0

The memory card of my new digital camera inserts directly into my printer.0
