Multi Manager Funds - Hargreaves Lansdown

I worked with a guy who'd been to Cambridge once. He arranged for us to go on a tour round the chapel at Kings. It was great - we went up into the roof!
I told him that the college I'd been to also had 'Keep off the grass' signs, but that was more to do with their drugs policy...

Interesting thread. I too am considering dipping my toes into the murky world of investments and always follow these threads with interest. Although it only helps confirm that I ought to think about it a bit longer...0 -

Have you got a cycling proficiency test certificate as well?
Oh wait, so the participant doesn't matter, except when it does? :rotfl:
I'll be as childish as I like as the stakes are so, so low... I am far more concerned about saying the right thing than I am about 'winning' an internet argument. I am 100% correct and it's up to people to choose whether to believe me or a few empty suits that decided growth funds had slightly lower volatility once.
For god's sake do something useful, I beg you. If you're anything like as bright as you claim to be you'll be throwing yourself under a bus after being an IFA for a couple of years, either that or developing a serious drug habit, and if you're going to do the latter it might as well be coke rather than soapbar and tennents super, know what I mean?
I'm 100% correct here, so it's up to others to decide whether they believe you or me. I've actually argued my points with backing from performance measures and statistics, while you've argued from personal incredulity and ad hominem attacks, mixed in with insults when people don't bow down before your supposed wisdom.
If this whole thing means so little to you, why not just walk away and don't come back? Clearly you've been getting a mostly negative response so far, so it's unlikely you'll be missed.
Bye bye now, you're clearly unworthy of any more of my time this morning.I am a Chartered Financial Planner

Jealous of what?
You don't even understand statistics or how to design an experiment, why should I bother looking at them?
Here is just one, highly obvious problem: Does the above control for initial stock selections? Go on, tell me!0 -

I choose not to believe people who cannot back up their arguments with level headed facts.
I have no idea whether Aegis is correct or not but at least I'll read what he says.I am far more concerned about saying the right thing
By insulting others :rolleyes:0 -
Do your own research, there's enough of this stuff in the public domain that you can make up your mind for yourself.
I don't have the time, inclination, or motivation to find the footnotes to back myself up... the IFAs have plenty of motivation due to their vested interests... make of that what you will0 -
Actually, I know
Go over to https://www.wilmott.com
Ask them about this. There's enough sad quant types with time on their hands there that one of them will dig up the research and refute dustonh's silly so called statistics in terms anyone can understand.0 -

If you were as intellectual as you try to make out you are, then you wouldn't resort to such childish behaviour and act the way you do.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
blah blah blah when did I claim to be academic? I have academic qualifications but that doesn't make me an academic.
I have the knowledge, the skills and the capability, but I sure as hell don't have the inclination. I will point people in the right direction and they can examine the evidence for themselves.
Now, note I never claimed to be an efficient marketeer, but people could do a lot worse than start off at http://www.e-m-h.org/
Then read some investment magazines from ten years and see how the hotly tipped managers are doing
Then ask themselves last time they saw an IFA driving a (new) Ferrari
Then ask if it makes any sense at all for dustonh to claim I have an agenda against anyone in financial services. I just have an agenda against the vast majority of them. There are plenty, however, who agree with me.0 -
Hey guys, thanks for the info. Is the Wilmot site anygood? Does anyone other than doonut rate it?
Also, please doonut and others, would you mind starting your own thread to continue your 'debate'?, perhaps entitled "arguements we get drawn in to too easily becasue we're probably bored at work and have nothing better better to do".
Cheerio and thanks0 -
own thread to continue your 'debate'?
Unfortunately thats very unlikely to happen.
It's quite amazing how apparantly intelligent and reasonable people can get so easily drawn into a pointless back and forth bout of posting on an anonymous Internet forum.
You can't call it a debate or an argument.
Just a set of random postings, often even nearly agreeing with each other, but they never know, cos they never actually read the other's postings properly.'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0
