Very easy to do once you have the lnb/dish and cable

Just plug in the hdmi cable or scart cable to tv preferable use the hdmi. Plug twin cables and main power

Turn on, then enter postcode it then scans for channels and then saves them

    Very good piece of kit

    Is it acceptably quiet?

I heard some of the early Humax stuff was noisy.

Yes its quite I have several Humax pvr's. It uses less than 1W on standby the lowest pvr on the market

You can also export programs onto a usb flash drive and replay in vlc player accept HD content which is protected. It very fast at export over 1gb program on my 4gb usb Play.com flash drive. It wont take my 16gb pen drive though

FWIW John Lewis didn';t get a deleivery this week, they say maybe the 20th which ties in with Humax's date. JL woman said today that are getting 500 then the rest of the 800 order later on in Feb.

JL Have one in stock in the UK in Brent Cross, but the woman said thats probably the display model, as it's counted as stock but not sold.

I currently have sky+, so is it just a case of unplugging the sky+ box , plugging in the Humax with HDMI cable , will I get HD straight away ?

  • At the moment I am running a HUMAX 9200 which has given me several years good service on freeview and am keen to upgrade to the HUMAX FIRESAT HDR when they become available. As I am no expert on these pieces of kit can anybody advise me about what will be required when I eventually get the firesat hdr.I realise that I will need a sat dish and all the usual installation, but is there anything else required apart from the Firesat recorder. I assume that my 9200 then becomes redundant. The telly is an HD ready Panasonic plasma. And the last thing, what is the average cost of having an independent installer supply and set up the dish etc.

Just remember you may lose some key channels compared to terrestrial Freeview. And to make use of Sat recording functions, need either a dual LNB + dual LNB cable, or a special latest model single LNB which most installers do not have.

I use both systems together. The 320gb hard drive sounds big but when you record 3-4 films in HD as was the case at Xmas it can get to 15%-20% full. Some nights like tonight I recording 4 lots of recording within more or less same time. I do like the HD content on BBC HD is looks so flipping great and I am use to watching HD through the pc playing mkv files in HD

I had a old sky dish. I just got a quad lnb and twin shotgun cable with clips and plugs and got a local fitter to do it. The lnb/cable was £20+ postage and £40 fitting
