With NTL you would need a wireless router (not ADSL router), connect that up, even with the slowest version 11mbps its 10 meg faster than your broadband connection, or you could get 54mbps which would be a lot faster than your broadband, you wouldnt get faster broadband just no loss of speed.
Thanks for that. I was hoping to disconnect the desktop from the internet and run a cable router from the cable (ntl) modem upstairs so I could have wireless internet access on the new laptop.
Is that possible? How can I do it, if I want to disconnect the desktop and but advance to the world of wireless??!
Thanks again for any help0 -

Dell Inspiron 6000, Pentium M 1.7GHz, 512MB RAM, 15.4" WXGA, Windows XP Media Center - £588 - N01605 (e-value code, direct from Dell)
Is it a good price or is it worth holding out?
Oh, requirements are wireless internet surfing, usual software (ie, itunes, word, excell, excell etc) & I want the system to last in terms of build and general spec for a few years!
Thanks for the input.
I have been looking at exactly this system, the Dell Inspiron 6000. A couple of guys at work bought some before Christmas and they have been really happy with theirs.
So far I have held off because I think I should be able to get them a little cheaper than they are at the moment. My work mates got theirs for around £500 and I'm expecting that price to re-appear soon. With respect to Windows Media Center, to me it looks as if Dell are going to make that a standard setup, there have been numerous "free" upgrade to Windows MCE recently, i.e. almost continious.
My Advice? Hold on a few more days and see what turns up in the next wave of offers when the current ones run out on the 25th & 1st Feb.0 -
