If you open a savings account you don't get charged £10 annual fee
You can post your cheques to them to be paid in (I photocopy mine before I send them) never had a problem doing that - they send you freepost envelopes to send them in
we've also got an offset mortgage and my husband and I recently opened a joint account (we've also both got individual accounts) the mortgage department phoned me the next day to ask if we wanted it linked to the offset account
I've been with them for over 10 years my husband has only recently opened accounts (because of the mortgage)
we're very happy0 -
Just got all my FD application bumf today, a credit score has apparently been done and I've been accepted for a CC as well, which means the account is free.
Of course, this happened last time I applied, then they declined a few days later. Oh well.

Perhaps it was your employer that they took exception to... :rotfl:

At the time it was Waitrose. I know they're supposed to be a bit snobby about customers, but they ain't that bad.
Nah, it was because I'd applied in the preceding 6 months and been declined. Meaning I had to wait another 6 months. After they'd given me provisional credit card and overdraft limits. I was, to put it one way, not best pleased.0 -

I admire your tenacity, I would have told them where to stick their bank account, but that is me, no surprise there, I am sure.;)0 -
I did simular to you at around the same time and got declinded because I had applied within 6 months.
Gave them a ring last week and they said that they have no record of me on their system anymore so the 6 months has passed.
Took the plunge and applied again. Told me over the phone I had passed credit/security and no id was required and that the account had a £500 o/d and credit card for £6900.
Got the paperwork last week which I signed and returned the same day. Would be great if they opened the account and card but after last time I will beleive it when it arrives!
Good luck with yoursShelfStacker wrote: »At the time it was Waitrose. I know they're supposed to be a bit snobby about customers, but they ain't that bad.

Been a couple of months since I moved to First Direct from Alliance & Leicester Premier Direct, mainly to grab the £100 they give you. No problems so far, the switch was painless and I like the online interface better than A&L. Having said that I'll be switching again to grab the other £100 they offer soon enough! If you ain't overdrawn its a simple case of maximising the interest (or in this case, freebies!).0

I have been with FD since Septemebr when we opened our offset mortgage, so I didn't look into rates of interest paid. Interest rates paid on all our other accounts with other banks has dropped anyway, so we have pretty much moved everything over to FD to be offset.
My biggest complaint is their text messages come at about 7 in the morning and I don't wake up till 7:30 so it wakes me up early!0 -
Has anyone had any experience of using the "easyswitch" service, and in particular, transferring accounts from two seperate banks to the 1st Account? Or is it better to transfer things yourself?
Also - does anyone know whether First Direct allow customers to have two current accounts?0 -
A question I have about First Direct - re. the statement machine in branch - is there any way to get the FD credit card linked up to it so you can see the credit card statement on it like HSBC customers can??
I don't think so, but I'm sure you can get a text to your mobile phone on any day you chose on any account you have with them.
Best bank ever. 15 years and counting.0
