I received some for 12 months @ 0% and it doesn't say anything on the accompanying letter whether one can use them this way or as an ordinary cheque ... It also says on there website here:
    http://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal-home/credit-guidance/credit-card-guide/how-much-will-my-credit-card-cost-me/index.html
What about credit card cheque fees?
We may send you credit card cheques. You can use these to pay off other credit cards or loans, or pay them into your bank account as a convenient way of borrowing money.
But i can't find anything in the Ts & Cs,.I could phone CSO, but with past experience I have got conflicting information.
I don't know whether the bank's system is sufficiently intelligent to tell whose account a cheque has been paid into.

Could your partner (if there is one) or a trusted family member route the money through their current account?

  • I logged on to my barclaycard account and sent a secure message asking those specific questions
pay them into your bank account as a convenient way of borrowing money
whether one can use them this way or as an ordinary cheque

They said reply would take up to 3 days I got this reply within the hour...
I can confirm that you can enjoy the mentioned promotional offer, if you have received the cheque.

A handling fee of 2.5% will be applied when you use your cheque. The promotional interest rate and expiry date of cheque is mentioned on the cheque.

It doesnt spell it out completely but its as good as a yes. :T

I've just received 2 12-month 0% cheques from Barclaycard. They expire within 2 weeks. I'm seriously tempted to pay them into my account, and use the cash to pay off some bills that aren't due until April (when current 0% offers end), which would then give me a very nice 7 months at 0%. The fee is 2.5%, which is lower than most offers I've seen.

Can anyone confirm definitively that this would be OK?
  • Ok, those of you that have these cheques, could you please confirm the exact name of the card that you have? I am looking for a card with good rates on CC cheques at the moment.

I have Barclaycard Platinum and B'card Cashback.

Note: these cheques cannot be ordered and you never know when the next ones will turn up in the post. Also Ts & Cs vary with each promotion.

  • Be careful with the expiry dates on these cheques. I used one once to pay off an overdraft and as it was outside the expiry period they charged it as a cash advance!

It took a lot of arguing with them to get it back and that was only considering they had sent me a new offer at the same 0% after I deposited the expired cheque.

I'm looking forward to getting my next statement to see if I have a cheque but I need to find a place to put it (c. £5k). I'm pretty happy to take risks with investments so will probably put it into a trading account as, other than the Abbey 6% upto £2.5k, I can't find anything else that would turn a profit once after tax and fee.
    Credit card balance/availability: £1400/£21,000
    Overdraft balance/availability: £0/£1,900
    Current accounts cash balance (0.1%):£0
    High interest account balance/availability £3000/£7000
    Cash: £800 Pension: c. £6,400
Smoke Free since 03/01/10: 7 Weeks, 600+ cigarettes!
