  • Probably not much help to you, but I was going to cancel my sky movies sub for economies sake yesterday and the (very nice and helpful scottish) bloke said he could give me a deal whereby I could have them for the next 3 months for £3 per month! I was genuinely going to cancel, not calling to complain, so maybe if you pretend you're going to cancel and are fine with that, they may make you an offer?

Have tried this already Sky would not admit that they billed me incorrectly and my membersip letters three of them have been sent out to me three times incorrectly eventually getting it right stating my service will disapear 6th Feb 2009

This is the letter i wrote head office but have had no reply as of yet:

    Re Cancellation of Service

I have been experiencing problems with my Sky Account it seems from the last few days in November 2008. Prior to this I have been paying my subscription of five mixes for over two years with the addition of adding Sky movie channels around the Christmas festive season.

In November around the 28th I made a call to Sky to add Sky Movies to my current package. I was told in the phone call that I would have to pay a month in advance for my Sky Movies and that it would put my next bill up to over £50.00 (You record these calls I am sure you can check this?). I questioned this but was told that is how Sky now adds movies to your account despite your advertisements’ stating you could have Sky Movies for Christmas for an extra £4.00. I was also told I had done this online which is why am asking you to check the phone calls as my partner witnessed the call.

During the Christmas period the movie channels where not spectacular and to be honest where not something that was watched due to the many repeats. During the festive parties I was also made aware that Sky was giving away ½ price Sky World packages for the sum of £23.50p.c.m. I phoned up to query this and was told that it was only offered to new customers and that I had no offers on my account despite being with you two years and paying for our own boxes. I also noticed that my bill seemed to be wrong as we had not had Sky movies from the 7th November 2008 to the 28th November 2008 and yet according to your accounts service you had charged me for this period. I spoke to your customer services department on Sat 3rd January 2009 and asked them to terminate my account as clearly my account was incorrect and I felt it was unfair that I was paying twice as much as my friends for the same Sky package. At this time I was told that Sky could offer me three months of the movies free and that was the best that they could offer. I refused this as I still did not think it was fair. Several calls to your disconnection team later only lead me to have high pressure sales techniques on me to try to get me to take up Sky Talk with £120.00 of inducements. I told the agent that I could not even think of putting Sky talk onto my account until my Sky TV Account issues had been raised. Sunday my partner again spoke to your disconnections department and asked for a manager to call back so that we could discuss these problems and come to some resolution. No phone call was forth coming. I was then given the telephone number of Sky relations and the following morning I asked to speak to a manager. The manager phoned back three times to offer me £57.77 of rebate on my bill. When I asked him to clarify what this was for he became very evasive. I was made aware that this refund was added to my account as a special offer. I refused this on the grounds of principal as this was not a special offer you removed this money from my account without my consent. When I asked him if I decide to terminate today “What will Sky do with this rebate” he became even more evasive and said that the disconnection department would sort out any payments that were owed. He also tried to offer me two months free usage and Sky + multi room at a discounted price. I told him that we had a projection unit in our spare room that was hooked up to the internet and movie services already and that we would not benefit from multi room. He said he had also looked into my account and I had never been offered 3 months three.(Check the phone call logs you will find this was offered to me) He passed me through to your disconnection team.

The lady who answered was very nice but was suffering from flue. She asked me why I wanted to disconnect and I told her that to be honest I did not feel it was fair that a new customer could have a start up deal when I was not given one. I also said that I thought it was unfair that you had not resolved my billing queries I was very upset about this and pointed out that sky may have stolen £50.00 pound for the December months viewing. It would however cost a lot more to Sky if I leave them and take up the services again in 12 months at least getting a start-up deal. I pointed out that the sky+ box was £99.00 and was informed it was now £199.00. I told her that a new installation was £50 and that if I disconnected for 12 months and then reconnected that it would cost Sky 199.00 + £50.00 + subscription a total loss of £513.00 on my account for the next year, without the probability that I would have taken on Sky HD+ as we have just bought a large HD Television for this year.

Obviously Sky cares very little for its existing customers and prefers to deal with only new customers because they can offer them substantial savings on their Sky service. It is a shame that Sky appears to feel it has no need to show loyalty or special offers to existing customers also

I still have not had my money refunded for the service I have not had and I believe public opinion is with me regarding your discounts to new customers. You can check this on an online poll that you are aware off.

I would be grateful if you would look into this matter for me refund my money stating what it is AN ERROR NOT A SPECIAL OFFER. Then we can decide whether this is the manor in which Sky wants to Part Company with us. I just hope that in a year for Sky’s sake we haven’t found a different service provider for our TV!

I want you to be aware that I have always supported Sky even with its new products where I have avidly given free technical advice to help them improve their service based on my background.

My Sky account terminates 6th February 2008.

    Yours Sincerely

    Bladegaurd(my name obviously)

Just to correct you, Skyuser is an independent website and has no affiliation to Sky.
It is true that Sky employees post on the site.
I'm still smarting about Sky trying to coerce me into taking Sky talk or face a £5 hike in the cost of my broadband.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • If Skyuser is as independant as they say they are on thier board how come most of its users seem to be sky beta testers and hardly any members are not? See my voting thread and who replied.

When I tried to disconnect Sky tried to coerce me into Sky Talk to stating I could save £10.00 a month from doing this. I only foundout by a random question that if you cancel your Sky package afterwards you loose your phones and or broadband as well. Additionally I found out later they where not offering me anything special as it was the current offer to everyone taking up Sky Talk at the moment.

Please I still need more votes as their are only 52 voters so far can everyone vote please?

    Hello bladeguard

I find it very hard to understand why you persist to try and bad mouth our website, SkyUser. As pointed out numerous times to you in the Poll that you have linked to in this thread, we have absolutely nothing to do with Sky.

Even here, you state "if Skyuser is as independant as they say they are on thier board how come most of its users seem to be sky beta testers and hardly any members are not?"

Fact: We have 31,482 members of which, 39 of them are Sky User Beta Testers, not Sky Beta Testers. When I was at school, 39 out of 31,482 is no where near a percentage that I could even think to call 'most'

I appreciate that you are aggrieved, but I am getting sick and tired of your claims that you persist in making about our website. You post rude, unsubstantiated claims, and it would appear that you cannot tell the difference, from what Official or Unofficial actually means.

You are obviously on a mission to slate Sky all over the internet, but please be reminded, that people are allowed to have a differing opinion to yours.
  • I think you will find as will the users of this site that I have been not rude on this site or the Skyuser website at all and I take great offense that you insist I have!

However thankyou for pointing out to me that you have 31,482 users of which 39 are Sky Beta testers then I can only hope that the remaining 31,443 will vote as well. I can only see the voters who has voted so if I am wrong in quoting that only Sky Beta testers have voted or appear interested then you have my appology as I try to give factual information as to what I have seen or experianced.

I can say that i will be very happy if all 31,443 sky users vote on this poll as I would have no need to seek out any further opinion as I am trying to get up to 1000 voters

I would also like to say I have posted no unstantiated claims only the ones that arise from contacting Sky directly and the information I have gained therein or questions in relation to the questions that I have been asked on your site and information that has been displayed there. If you find these opinion awkward I suggest that you would do well to see what you could do to help rather than slate me for trying to make things better!

It is quite apparant in my opinion however that you persist in trying to bad mouth me and have followed me to this site to do exactly the same thing you did on a previous site and on your own SkyUser. I hope I am wrong!. I do however understand you have the right to answer critisism raised at your site.

The truth will come out in this matter and opinion will be from the public not me!

I am not on a mission to slate Sky all over the internet as this is the second site I have asked for opinion from. I am just trying to get a relistic poll something the users of your website have not given in my opinion to-date and am indead looking for a bigger audiance to get the best answer from. Something I would have thought Sky User would be behind not fighting?

Contry to your opinion in fact I have enjoyed the services provided by Sky up until December this year for some years.

I am entitled to ask questions about how people feel about skys service in the hope that either I may learn that I am wrong or will find that people are of the same opinion as myself.

Its called Google Alerts, we get alerts from Google, when it finds our name on web pages. I have neither the time nor the inclination to answer the rest of your post. As you have the most annoying habit of changing them halfway through posting a reply. And so the original text you put, has since been removed.
  • Thank you for your comments.

Can everyone tell me if they voted please? as I need thousands for sky to yet a good idea of public opinon.

I vote that I am happy with Sky's service. £3 a month for films is fine in my book. When they stop the offer I will go back to the £20 odd a month service :)

(not a new user, had sky since the analogue days and don't work for them etc etc)
  • I have now left Sky due to thier continual non return of the money the overcharged me at Christmas and resolving my complaint. I cancelled my DD after speaking to a customer service manager for over 40 mins the other night when all i wanted was to get HD. She was rude could not help and was the third agent I had spoken too. I Give up!!

I can certainly say in my experiance that SKY does not give a toss about its existing customers that pay regularly and dont get any offers. I am obviously in a minority as if you dont pay regularly you seem in my experiance from people i talk to to get more offers.

I vote crap customer support sack the lot and re-employ some of the unemployed english people.
  • If your leaving sky or thought you read somewhere that you bought and paid for * your Sky+ or SkyHD box be warned

You thought that your hard disk recorder would still work as it was yours .

    Well it WILL NOT.

You need to have a Sky subscription for any of the functionality of this box to work. You cannot even record the freeview channels that you can still recieve.

Thanks heaven Humax is at hand and will be delivering a FreeSat box with recording functionality in the next quarter that will solve this and with there box you wont need a subscription.

Even pre recorded programs that have been paid for are not accessable and cannot be watched. Recording is also not possible.

My advice dont buy your box HD/SKY+ or otherwise as you still wont own it or be able to use it if you drop sky. Wait and buy the Humax Box.

And I think it might be released by now
