Or couse given this is a gaming rig, and probably has high end graphics and sound cards there is always the possiblilty there are no 64 bit drivers for the hardware.

64 bit is just not ready for general use yet, the driver support can be hit and miss.

PMSL the opposite may be true....high end hardware generally has pretty good x64 support. Running vista 64 on 3 of my 5 machines (vista32 and xp on the other 2, 'low end' machines)

I hope thats not the case :) I did speak to the chap who puts these puters together and asked for the OS and he said that the amazon one would be fine. So fingers crossed. Son is a gaming fanatic and got this spec computer because his cyber mates told him it had the best spec for gaming.

I've not looked around for cheaper..but it looks pretty good.

I'm also curious about the spec...£700 builds a good PC nowadays!

Yeah but my point is, not necessarily. Really with any less than 4GB (and I'm assuming it probably has 4GB at least given the price) then Vista 64 is more resource hungry than anything else and there won't really be much advantage

I'm sorry but that's wrong. Vista x64 uses no more resources than the 32bit version. In addition to that, it's been widely reported as being faster for gaming than the 32 bit version, mainly due to superior memory management.

Hope your right, but experience suggests it's 50:50 if you get all the drivers in 64 bit version. It won't be the major drivers it will be something small and annoying that will be missing driver...

If it's a brand new machine I'd be very surprised if you struggled with drivers. High end hardware has excellent x64 support these days. Chances are it's gonna be a Soundblaster sound card and an Nvidia or possibly ATi graphics cards. Both have excellent x64 drivers and are all that's really going to be of consequence for gaming.

I thought it was very expensive but it does look pretty, see through side and all that. Ill try to find the specs for you, not that they mean anything to me.
