I think it is with most suppliers. Things can run smoothly for one person and be a total disaster for another.
If things start off on the right foot they tend to continue very well, but if you encounter problems early on and struggle to get things sorted out it tends to go from bad to worse.

Every power company has the potential to be a good company to deal with.

Well I've been with Powergen about 4 years. They read the meter when we first moved to them and then didn't read it for the next two years. Unfortunately I didn't read it for a period of a year, and within that period we somehow used an extra £300 of electricity over the norm.

Over the last 8 months I've been trying to get someone from Powergen to prove we used the extra. All they can say is that from previous and subsequent readings we are using the same standard amount and are unable to explain the sudden jump. Also, during the last 12 months they have sent online bills to my old email address, even though I wanted papaer bills and gave my new email address more than once. In the end I accepted their offer of reducing the bill by 20%, but very soon I'm switching, once I've analysed the figures.

I'd recommend everyone to read and record their meter monthly. But I also don't expect any better service from whoever I switch to.
