I know you can get plain white iced fruit cakes from most of the supermarkets, not sure about chocolate though. :-( We had a chocolate wedding cake made by a friend it was yummyThe only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.

I had my wedding cake from marks and spencers, i bought their custom made cakes, the cakes were sold individually, boxed (costing £80 in total with the pillars). I had a collegue (who made cakes as a hobby) put the cake together and decorate it. It was gorgoeus! Alot cheaper than the cakes id seen in cake shops.Serial lurker..0

Our wedding cake was also from M&S. We had sponge but I'm pretty sure they do chocolate.....
And their cakes are always VERY YUMMY!!!:DBLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
Yes, I was going to suggest M&S - I'm sure they do a chocolate one too.0

I've asked my brother to make my chocolate layer! Its the only cake he knows how to make but always turns out ok.
Perhaps you know a secret chocolate cake maker that you could ask to help?Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Do you live near a Costco at all, or know someone with a membership? I've seen a lot of people on the OS boards recommend their chocolate cake. It wouldn't be a 'wedding' cake as such but you could pretty it up with flowers etc. I think they're really cheap too.0

Hi
have you thought of making it yourself? Very easy and you can hire a tin for about £5 from your local cake decorating shop - below are some things i quickly found on googling, that a beginner could do. Make cake as per recipe. 'Glue' with butter icing on board of your choice. Ice with chocolate butter icing. 'Glue white hearts etc around sides of cake with ready made icing and dark chocolate hearts round base of cake. Add cake topper. Done!

Cookie...do you have to order the Tesco cake in advance?
Swtchick....Ive looked on the M&S website and loved the chocolate cake, but its far more than i wanted to pay really.
Gingernutmeg....im not sure if there is a costco locally. Its a fairly rural area, but thats one option for me although id have to apply for a membership, and is it like a cash and carry for businesses?0 -
Westiea...thanks so much for the advice and the links! Im a total novice at making cakes, but its an option and i might give it a go, and if it turns out well i could make one for the big day. How far in advance do you think i could get away with when making it?0
