Oh abouttimetoo, it's just so wrong isn't it. Terrible that they expect £4700 in 2 weeks, where on earth would most people be able to find that sort of money anyway?

Everyone, thank you so much for your posts and kind wishes, it's actually even a bit worse than I posted yesterday, the £1100 I posted is actually £1857.19 (got another tax advice today) The £4700 relates to 08/09 and 09/10 and I have the paperwork from HMRC relating to this which would you believe turned up four weeks after it's issue date and a week after the actual demand so the demand letter was the first I knew about it. I'm guessing the £1857.19 relates to 10/11 but although the tax code form says i have already been advised of what this is I certainly haven't! So, the two amounts together mean a total of £6557...

I've been through all my paperwork and the numerous tax codes I've had issued in the last 2.5 years and I can't see any way i could have been aware of this. What really galls me is that they have 12 months after the end of tax year in which they received the information to process it so in my case the 08/09 information they were sent from my employer June 09 means they have until April 11 to process it and apply it to my tax!

I'm not denying I seem to owe this sum I'm just so upset at the shock and circumstances. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle this yet as I don't seem to fit the esc19 appeal situation.

Apparently they can arrange a repayment programme, interest free of up to three years but I need to speak to them this week about it as I couldn't do that because I was still waiting for the calculations. Part of me says 'why make it easy for them by just paying straight away and without a whimper' and part of me says to just arrange to pay it and get them off my back. I wouldn't be able to just pay it off in full though as I would have to borrow the money.

I see from another board on here that others are in the same situation and I truely hope that none of you on here are.

    Regards
    ATT

  • Okay - here's where we are! Sold the house for a crappy figure but still way more than we paid for it 5 years ago and bought our new house for £% less than they wanted! Yeah!!! We move on the 23rd! Yes, of this month! As I'm sure you can all imagine, things are frantic here - so much so I got the balance of our mortgage for the update - and cannot find it anywhere!!!! Will have another look over the next couple of days and hopefully get it in in time!

Wow how exciting - and how quick! I hope it goes well for you and you are happy in your new home :j
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)
