Does not matter.
Item was described as new. If the box is damaged then it is not "as new."
I would suggest that the OP reports the seller as circumventing fees if they really believe that the postage is excessive.0 -

It was intended as a present. The Ebay photo showed the box.
The item although undamaged is not 'as new' as they have plastered the guitar with stickers that come with it, all the manuals are missing also.0 -
I think your being too fair. Destroying the box for an item reduces the value you can sell it on for.
