Is it possible to get lost in a tunnel?

Yep, try driving through the tunnels under Brussels - they have quite a few junctions and obviously sat nav is no help whatsoever. When the other people in the car can't read a map and it's rush hour it makes for interesting driving!

    No!

(unless there are some satellites in a really, really low orbit :) )

Or it's a very high tunnel! :rotfl:
    Move along, nothing to see.

I'd be interested to know if Satnavs work in tunnels....

Expensive ones with gyroscopes built in can do this to some extent. Normally only built-in types have this.

Some portable ones 'guess' where you are based on speed and bearing when the satellite signal was lost.

But what's the point anyway?

Older satnavs had appalling lock times, so that might have something to do with it.

  • Slightly off topic but my sat nav looses the sat signal if i'm surrounded by really tall buildings in the city, i.e Glasgow/Edinburgh.
You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.

That's because it's practically the same as being inside. GPS can handle some "bouncing" off buildings but not if you're effectively "enclosed".
