What's going to happen to the people who can't afford to change their fittings to accommodate those revolting, ugly, sick pukey puce:eek: energy lights we're all forced to buy this year?

We should take advice from the Kiwi's0

They will have to fit a lower wattage bulb, they are phasing them out gradually.0

You can use energy saving bulbs in the same fittings as normal light bulbs....
I see it in the same way as leaded petrol - I'm sure there was a right old fuss about that then, but people adapted. Anyway, we'll all soon get used to the low energy ones (we've got no choice, so might as well!) Or do what my nan's done, and buy a lifetime's supply of normal bulbs...

Why?
If One of the opposition parties suddenly said, NO. to the compulsory change, and got elected??

I've collected a big stash of 'ordinary' bulbs in different shapes and sizes; I've got antique lamps and they do not like the big, ugly energy saving ones!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

I've had a pretty long life, and I have never known that last line to be true, unless you can find that elusive place called Utopia.0 -

er, it will have all happened before theres an election, & even if a different party got in, they wont just change it back.
where would they get the old-style bulbs from anyway, as people will stop making them.
as for not fitting existing fittings, complete rubbish!!!

If there is a demand for a product , someone, somewhere will make it.
Too many people 'just roll over and die'
Ps you will be able to buy the better bulbs over the internet for many many years.0 -
Personally I'm surprised at all the fuss. I agree that "100W equivalent" CFLs are nowhere near equivalent to a traditional 100W bulb, more like 60W, also yes - they tend to be bigger.
However they are not more expensive - see all the 5 for 39p offers that keep appearing in the supermarkets! Traditional bulbs will be more like two for £1.69.
They're also available in large and small bayonet and screw fittings, so should fit virtually all lamps. Also, I'm sure brighter, smaller bulbs will be available soon - I expect we'll see lots of better alternatives in the next couple of years.0 -

Incandescent bulbs are better then................and they don't make you look puce.
The new ones cause migraine and epilepsy.0
