You can use "One" or GNER I think
  • It's charging me £210 to get to london from manchester - i dont think i will bother buying the papers!

Just tried again & its £15 for a single on a dif day- thats better - but now i cant get back!

Even without the Daily Mail offer 1st class return Manchester to London is only £56 (£28 eachway).

Book VIRGIN Value 1st single tickets (£28 each) which is a lot less than the £210 fare being quoted.

But remember with value 1st tickets the following restrictions

Valid only on the train booked (£5 to change booking). Miss your train and the ticket is invalid.

No refund if you cancel your journey.

Normally only available on OFF-PEAK trains but some of the trains VIRGIN call off-peak I would call peak depending on how you travel.

Does anybody know what type of free food and drink you get in first class?

I travel 1st class regularly and I cannot understand why VIRIGN have not updated the 1st Class WEB page.

You need to click on the PDF file links to get the current food and drink times.

If you can book on a Pendalino PRIMO Service take it. The food is excellent considering it is prepared on the train in coach K's kitchen. Even the non PRIMO service is excellent value with good snack meals (English Breakfast is quality) plenty to drink, free set of headphones (have a house full of them) and free newspaper (The Times or Evening Standard, not the Daily Mail) reclining seat.

Take advantage of the VIRGIN 1st class lounges

See what 1st class looks like in both the tour and gallery links:

Remember this is all in the price of your ticket no extra to pay on the train for any of the above

I just booked 2 returns from London to Manchester for £30. Absolutly amazing value.

Just need to find a cheap, but decent, hotel now. Anyone have any codes?

Transpennine Express - from the major centres on the east coast (Hull, Scarborough, Middlesborough & Newcastle) to the west, offering easy access to the tourist gems of York and Scarborugh, the Pennine Hills, the Lake District and the Victorian heritage towns and cities from Liverpool to Leeds. Also includes Manchester Airport.

Sample Fares - only available as Return Fares (First Class in brackets).

    Liverpool to Manchester ~ £5 (£10)
    Manchester to Leeds ~ £10 (£15)
    Manchester to York ~ £15 (£20)
    Newcastle to Manchester ~ £20 (£25)

This is based on a zonal system, where you pay a set fare for each zone that you travel through. Manchester Airport is in the same zone as Manchester Piccadilly.

    How to book?
Present your coupon from the Daily Mail with 3 coupons at station offices throughout the Uk.
