I dont know anyone who has tried it though"what lies behind us & what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" Ralph Waldo Emerson0 -
I do it sometimes if I'm in a rush to get to College as it's only £7.00 from home to Brum so it works out cheaper to eat on the train and sit in 1st class than to eat in the canteen.
Breakfast time - you get a choice of bacon or omelette thing in a roll + fruit and yoghourt, tea, coffee, juice or water.
Haven't done it back very often but when I do it's either what Virgin call an ambient box - full of snacks, mini kitkat, pretzels, dried fruit + drinks as above, or a roll with either meat or vege option.
You also get a free Times newspaper and a lovely reclining seat with loads of room + a proper table - not a flip-down on.
Wish I could afford to do it all the time - lolNoli nothis permittere te terere

I need a Liverpool-Cardiff but can't see it.
Click here for the Virgin trains website. You need to register if you haven't already, then search for the journey you want.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

One point I cannot find an answer to.
For a return journey do you need 2 sets of 3 tokens?
The reason I ask is on the outward journey the conductor will collect your tokens with the name and address voucher completed to validate your outward ticket. This indicates you will have no tokens to validate your return ticket.
Has anyone clarified 3 tokens will suffice for both an outward and return journey. Or to do both cheaply do you need 6 tokens and two name and address forms completed
If not ensure you have 2 sets of 3 tokens or you might cop for a penalty fare on the return leg of your journey.0 -

You only need 3 tokens for your outward and return journey ~ I assume that the conductor on the train will mark the tokens as used rather than take them off you.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Thank you for the message.
I'm very happy to have got two first class returns from Southampton to Edinburgh for a total of £80.
I then was able to get four nights at the Travelodge in the centre of Edinbirgh for only £26 a night , so overall a nice cheap holiday with a stress free comfortable train journey.
Can I just mention to those of you trying for Virgin tickets but getting prices higher than you think, this probably means the promo tickets have gone.
If you go in and there are promo tickets then you will see an unmissable red square at the top of the price list showing the promo tickets and the journeys they are available on.
Hope that helps
DaveWaddle you do eh?0 -
Booked 2 first class return tickets Birmingham-London for £40 last night with Virgin. Looking forward to it, as I've never travelled by 1st class before.0

Don't forget travelling 1st class allows you to use the 1st class lounges a mainline stations.
The VIRGIN 1st class lounge is excellent and it's all

Also free showers with towels provided.

Link this train offer with the eat out for £5 tokens in The Times and you are on a real winner. In London recommend you use your "eat out" tokens to try Griegs in Bruton Street, top quality food.
