I can't prove it now, but it was very clear before Jan 7th that applications completed online would be guaranteed the bonus.

I think your best bet if you really don't believe it is to wait until all you paperwork is submitted and then call Tesco to confirm the rate you will be on.

OK, nevermind. I just received my application form in the post today and was a bit miffed that it didn't mention the bonus. I was hoping you had some bit of magic info that would cheer me up again! I might as well just send the forms back and see what happens.

I have received the returning form today.

The date on it says 7th Jan, however it tells me to refer to the ratings card, which says that the rate is 3.6%..., no mention of the bonus at all....

I am going to call them to find it out :mad:

Just noticed this in the Tesco FAQ:

Question:

I applied for my Internet Saver account before the 8th January but my account was not opened before this date, will I still receive the 1.50% bonus?

Answer:

Yes, all applications received prior to the 8th January 2009 will be eligible for the 1.50% bonus for the first 12 months after the account is open provided account opening formalities (for example ID checks) are completed satisfactorily.

It should be pretty clear-cut. They send a letter dated the date of your online application along with the documents you need to sign and return. That date will determine whether you qualify for the bonus or not (as detailed in the message on their website). You can therefore prove that you applied before the bonus was dropped in the event of a mistake.

You will be lucky have been trying to phone them for two days and phone always engaged. Just posted back forms so hope I get the 1.5% bonus. Their letter dated 7th when I opened it on line and then I phoned and was told I would get bonus ....so here's hoping
