I somehow doubt that !!!!!! means Billie Holliday or Robert Johnson.

1981 saw Joe Dolce (Shaddapa ya face) kick the year off followed by the delights of Shakin Stevens, Bucks Fizz & Adam & the Ants.

The next recession was even worse (1990/1)

At least we had the Specials in 1981.

Perhaps I sense !!!!!! harking for that great folk musician Billy Bragg to make a comeback.

!!!!!! & and the big nosed ******* from Barking, waiting for the great leap forwards ?

YOU'LL BE PLEASED TO KNOW KENNYNOYE THAT WE HAVE THE SPECIALS IN 2008 - THEY'VE REFORMED !!!

    Joy Division
    The Clash
    The Fall
    Gang of Four
    The Undertones
    Josef K
    The Specials

    for a start....

Its a nice thought, however The Clash and Joy Division both started in 1976 - Ian Curtis was dead (May 80) before the 1980/81 recession really got into full swing.

Whilst I can obviously see the appeal of things getting cheaper, I cant help wondering about the sacrifices being made to enable those reductions.

If one is too assert falling prices are good, then one must also assert thier own wages should fall along with the shop staff / owners. I trust all those paid out of Government funds will welcome thier own pay reductions so we can then ALL benefit from Tax reductions which are just another cost like Pizzas?

I agree but am trying to look on the bright side of what is actually happening. Sure, the reasons behind the reductions is sad. But that shouldn't stop the rest of us enjoying them at face value - I'm sure the owner of a cafe going out of business would rather we went in and ate his cheap lunch than avoided his cafe because we didn't want to demean his dignity....

You could argue the recession began in the 1978/79 winter of discontent.

Most of the biggest selling UK bands the beatles, stones, Oasis, Zeplin etc. Are not from recessions so it may be worth pointing out the chances are the point about music is fairly pants.

The thing is you get depressed listen to depressing stuff. That then becomes your reminder of that recession.

I listen to Gang of Four, Joy Division, Arcade Fire, Radiohead (& Radiodread) etc, all fairly bleak stuff, I don't find it depressing not does it depress me.

Watching endless 'reality' and 'talent' shows however......

I did not say it depressed you Read what I said you get depressed and listen to depressing stuff (bleak if you want to call it) Were they the only bands during that recession? I am sure other carp was around.;)
I don't buy any pop music. Still listen to Metallica still going strong.:D

The point is pop musik is sumed up by the name pop. Buy the sound of it your musical tastes (bleak) are more suited to a recession it does not mean bands get better as it is a matter of opinion.;)

Any more good points about a rcession? Anyone?

Yes I have made some big purchases a house and a car (second hand). But good prices are only good if you take advantage of them.
