Good things about the recession

The Clash !!!!
The Jam too.
And most bands born out of the punk era - I'm pretty sure that punk wouldn't have happened without the bad economy.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -
The Clash !!!!
Agree on that but you would also have to include all punk and skah (is that how you spell it) as that would be the sound of the recession. (and a lot were awfull and manufactured)
I don't think the recession caused the Clash, but the Clash were a good band during that recession but you could give such examples of bands caused in good times.
Personaly I think a recession as no affect on the quality of the groups coming through just that the style of music changes.;)0 -

Do they? Such as?
I somehow doubt that !!!!!! means Billie Holliday or Robert Johnson.
1981 saw Joe Dolce (Shaddapa ya face) kick the year off followed by the delights of Shakin Stevens, Bucks Fizz & Adam & the Ants.
The next recession was even worse (1990/1)
At least we had the Specials in 1981.
Perhaps I sense !!!!!! harking for that great folk musician Billy Bragg to make a comeback.
!!!!!! & and the big nosed ******* from Barking, waiting for the great leap forwards ?US housing: it's not a bubble

What about the obvious 'The Blues' music didn't start in the 70's'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

Whilst I can obviously see the appeal of things getting cheaper, I cant help wondering about the sacrifices being made to enable those reductions.
If one is too assert falling prices are good, then one must also assert thier own wages should fall along with the shop staff / owners. I trust all those paid out of Government funds will welcome thier own pay reductions so we can then ALL benefit from Tax reductions which are just another cost like Pizzas?0 -
Arguably all of grunge/Madchester music was "recession born" - so my student days of Happy Daze type stuff - which was not half bad - probably counts.
So I think what we are establising here is perhaps is the style of music may change to suit the outlook but not the general quality of bands. (PS grunge movement came from the states)0 -
